Do these Guns fit the Defintion of a Snub?

I don't collect snubs but somehow I have a collection! Imagine that. I'm considering doing a group photograph of all my Smith and Wesson snubs to post here but I have three that some might question as a sunb. What do you think?

Some folks mention that a true snub is 2-1/2 inches or less. I tend to agree with that.

I was raised on many of the noir detective movies of the late '40s & early '50s when all you saw were 2" Colts. When I started my career the first thing I did was buy a Colt Cobra 2" so I guess I agree that it has to be a two incher to qualify.

There's no official definition, so no final answer. To me, it depends on the frame: for an N, 3.5" or less; a K, 2.5" or less; J, approximately 2".

I've always felt that anything 3" or under qualifies as a snub. I've never felt that an N frame anything qualifies as a snub. No matter how cool a N frame "cut-down" may be there is just to much bulk to a handy C/C revolver.

I tend to think anything 3" or under as snubnose. When you have barrel lengths in the 8" range, 3" is pretty snubby.

I can't believe that we're still talking about this. This is the 21st century people. The attitudes of blatant snubbists can no longer be tolerated! Any gun who feels it is a snub should be accepted as a snub.
Terms like j,k, and n-framed; 2, 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 3/8" barreled; do nothing but cause pain for those "differently framed or barreled".
There is absolutely no reason that a 8 3/8" n-frame should be excluded from wearing an in-waist holster if that is where it feels comfortable. If it sees itself as a 2" j-frame - so be it.

One the other hand, I think that it cannot be denied that no J-frame ever made was not a snub nosed revolver, even at 3". Further, the same can be said for 2" and 2.5" barreled but larger revolvers - they're always snubbies, whether K, L, etc. The 3" barreled Model 629 also fits into the category of a snub nosed revolver.

That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Snub nosed and concealability in this context might not equate, however....

Thanks guys for your replies. Sounds like this topic has been around the block a few times. However, I really appreciate your comments.

And to avoid any serious conflict and nasty comments, I'll probably photograph them all and call them my "Shorter Barreled S&W Revolvers". Actually IMO, when you look at them as a group, only one stands out as perhaps not belonging and that is the Md 36 with a 3 inch barrel. The 3 inch barrel on a J frame appears to be longer than it really is. On the other hand the big N frames look the part with 3.5 inch barrels. By the way, my "collection" includes one I frame, five J frames, one K frame and two N frames.

a snub has to be a J, K, or D frame with a barrel no longer than 2". There is no such thing as a N frame snub, or a Colt OP snub, or a Python snub. Taurus and Rossi make snubs, but I consider them beneath true snubby contempt, and do not include them
