Well my buddy Bill has a problem. He has found a Smith 624 that looks new in the box with all the doodads. He wants it bad, being the Smith addict that he is. He has a rather cool 30.06 mauser action rifle with a mannlicher stock...and I would like to buy it (for my son) so he can buy the 624. BUT, the maytag oven just died as did the DVD player and i still ain't filled out my taxes...the wife ain't real happy about another rifle laying around ("I'll shoot it baby!"). So, my quandry is...what is the third thing that's gonna break...what should I do?

Appliances plot against you. They know. They're almost as smart as cars.

When money was tight, the refrigerator would make death rattles.

When the house in Virginia was for sale, stupid things started to break. I had to tell the house that we were going to make sure it was going to be loved and be in good hands but that it had to cooperate, and it settled down. We did have to buy it a new stove as a peace offering.

Now there is truth if I ever heard it!

New topic for 'How They Do It"...How do appliances, cars, equipment know that you are tight for money, time etc.?

Don't have any advice, but yes, they do happen in threes.

Two Thursdays ago I started the day with a locksmith getting me into my truck. Stopped for fuel later that day because I was at 1/3 of a tank. Filled it up, then realized that I had put gasoline in a diesel truck. Had it towed. Buddy came by to get me and we went and did some other work. It was after the Ford house closed that I realized that my house key was in the truck that they were keeping overnight (some poor sucker had to hand-pump the fuel out of the tank). Three in one day.

Maybe 4, or is tomorrow a new start?

I am referencing the bill for disposal of the mixed fuel, enviromental charges and all?

People living beyond their means is a big part of why this economy is in the condition it is. We all want things, but sometimes have to wait for them.

How do you know that the DVD player wasn't really the "Third Thing" and you didn't notice the first or the second?

My "Collection" is my .357K program and my Bride knows all about it is doing much better than her 401K. We're working on our 35th Year together and still going strong and I figure one of the reasons is that I don't try to hide things, especially money matters, from her.

I think you may be right! $400 dollars. $200 of that for towing me from the fuel pump to the Ford place not even three miles away.

Last week one of guys died of excessive consumption of beverages and a notice went out.

A day or two later a second of our guys dies of a beverage related death and a notice went out.

A couple of days later one of the guys in the office has been given a hard time by the boss. He sits down and says "You better call me a ...." and hits the floor. He's given first aid, 911 is called and his heart stopped twice according to paramedics. He's in the hospital and we are awaiting the outcome. He might make it but if he comes back we still got that same boss.

Now I don't know nuthin' 'bout no stuff happenin' in threes but this looks to me like, uh, it happened in threes. An' none of it was good.
