Do you attend minor league ball games?

We went to the Kane County Cougars game yesterday. Midwest A league team for Oakland A's. We've got to a few of their games over the last couple of years.

It's much cheaper than an MLB game. Everyone is friendly. There is usually enough going on between innings and sides that the kids stay entertained.

Not a baseball fan either, though I regret not it making to the Old Yankee Stadium.
Several minor league teams here in NJ, the Trenton Thunder since 1984, several others. I like to go to Thunder Stadium, my brother and SIL's names are on the Charter Members plaque that is prominently displayed.
My SIL said of Thunder Stadium "There isn't a bad seat in the place".
The quality of play seems good enough to me, just as dramatic. I went to a game at Patriots Park in Bridgewater, NJ, the Somerset Patriots vs the Road Warriors (now defunct). The Road Warriors were at bat, bases loaded, the batter connected with the ball, you could hear the crack-a pop fly right into the second baseman's mitt.
3 summers ago I took friends to Camden to Campbell Field, saws the Camden Riversharks vs. the Somerset Patriots, we took the RiverLine down and back. Tickets were $6, afterwards fireworks.
I agree, great value for your money, plus all the little extras. At Campbell Field they had a party pavilion, you can get a birthday party package for kids, they will announce the kids birthdays, let the kids announce the players. Some of them have autograph sessions after the Sunday games, as they say, you're seeing "Tomorrow's Stars Today".

THE TOLEDO MUDHENS. several times a summer. Great new stadium, the envy of AAA ball. Friendly, family oriented, a great time. Every time a player gets on a hot streak the Tigers call him up, though.

Many years ago, we had a single A team in the area. The ballpark was an antique, dating from WWI era. It was a blast. Then they made a movie about it, moved it from single A to triple A, built a new ballpark, and the whole flavor was gone. I believe the term 'bullpen' came from this ballpark as they were known as the Durham Bulls. The original field was great, complete with the Bull on the fence, and the uphill area in right field. New teams always had a fit with that section of the field. Definite home field advantage. When they changed, I quit going. Such a shame, and a great loss of a great field.

I used to go see the Phillies AAA team when they played here... about a 45 to 50 minute drive for me.

They moved a few years back, and now we have the Yankees AAA team.... I hate the Yankees.

I'm in the same part of the world with Ski - we live about 30 minutes north of the Yankees' AAA stadium. We go to maybe one game a year.

Hey Longhair, The Bulls just played a game in the old ballyard up in North Durham. They may make it a yearly event. I don't think they were an "A" league team though. I get to the DBAP several times each season and I'm never disappointed. I've been to the old Yankee Stadium many times, the Big Shea and the big tent in Minneapolis. I like minor league ball better. There are three kinds of players in "AAA"; the guys who want to get up to the big show, the guys who are down getting better and the guys who will never move up but they love to play the game. It's quality baseball. I've been to the new (ish) Newark Bears stadium in (where else) Newark, NJ. I've been to the afore-mentioned DBAP and I've even been to see the Lakewood (NJ) Blue Claws although they are an "AA" team (I think). There is a team called the "Carolina Mudcats" who play in Zebulon and I want to get to see them. I used to travel for business and I regret not seeing more minor league teams when I was on the road.

I just looked it up; the Bulls were a "high A" team in the Carolina league when they played at the Durham Athletic Park. Props to Longhair and boos to Russ.

The last live minor league base ball game I went to was the Boise Braves circa 1956.

We go see the Arkansas Travelers several times a season. They used to be affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals, but I believe they're with the Angels now.

They built a very nice new stadium for them in North Little Rock a couple of years ago, Dickey-Stephens Park. Built right on the north banks of the Arkansas River with the skyline of Little Rock behind the outfield, it's a very impressive ballfield for a small time team . . . but it's about the only professional team sport in Arkansas.

I'm in the same part of the world with Ski - we live about 30 minutes north of the Yankees' AAA stadium. We go to maybe one game a year.
I might get back there this year. I got my girlfriend somewhat interested in baseball last summer, so maybe if the Iron Pigs are in town we'll go see them.

Altoona Curve(Pirates) and the Erie Seawolves(Tigers) and for some real cheap seats and eats Slippery Rock Sliders and the Butler Blue Socks (College Summer League)

My wife's husband died (1980) and mutual friends were taking her to the Memphis Chicks games to keep her cheered up a bit. One evening the friend's wife had an emergency to attend to (she was a Mid Wife) and Walter called me and asked me to go to the game with them - He said he'd feel funny going out with Nancy but without his wife. So I went, just to be nice.
Nancy and I have been together pretty much ever since and went to many, many Chicks games. About the same time that The Chicks left Memphis we did too.
We're about 60 miles from Memphis now but plan to make at least one Redbirds game this year --- Even though I am a lifelong Cubs fan and the cards :( aren't among our favs.

My best friend (RIP Bob!) was from St. Louis.
He pulled for the Hawks if they weren't playing St. Louis and I pulled for the Blues if they weren't playing Chicago but we NEVER could get the Cubs/Cards thing going :)

The Altoona Curve play up the road just about an hour away. Try to catch a few games every season.

My favorites are weekday MORNING games. Will be there this Thursday (May 20) for a 10:30 a.m. game. No, that's not a typo; game is 10:30 in the morning. Nice way to start the day!!!

Be safe.

PS:

Still think they should've name them the Fish. :p

The wife and I try to attend the local Boston Red Sox's single A team a few times each summer. It's pretty good fun. I'm not a big baseball fan, but I do enjoy it.

I go to a Tulsa Drillers game about once a year. My wife and daughter go to several OKC Redhawks games a year, as my wife's cousin works in the office and gives them tickets.

Yes, it's cheap family fun, but I'm just not that interested in baseball. Yeah, I know I'm going to get flamed, but I'd rather go to a TU basketball game. If I attend a sporting event at all, that is.

I'm not a big ball and stick sports guy. If it doesn't burn fossil fuel, then it's not a sport in my book.

That being said, several times a summer I'll head over to a Spokane Indians game. It's hard to beat enjoying a beer and a dog while watching a game on a warm summers night with friends and family. The Indians are a farm team for the Rangers.

Brian~
