for those who put a metal roof on there house after having shingles ,did you have to put a bigger gutter on your house? my house has the regular size gutters put on when built in 1990 ,guy i might have put metal roof on my house ,said i should put bigger gutters on ,to take away the water because ,the water moves faster on the metal than shingles, of course he installs gutters ,now when i asked about snow guards ,he said i probably did not need them here in KY ,i guess i could put metal roof on and see if old gutters will handle the water ,just wondered if anyone had that problem,..house with 2 car attached garage is about 1,700 sq feet ,pitch of roof is about normal ,not real steep

Built my house in 03, put on a good metal roof and no gutters.

I had gutters on my other house (Shingles) and to be honest they were a PITA. Even with gutter guards the leaves got in.

Now at my present house the rain does come of faster and farther.

The snow also gets off sooner and faster. Great because we get a lot of snow and that stuff can get heavy fast. That's under normal conditions, add into it rain, freezing or other wise and the weight goes up fast!

Do this, unless you think you actually need new gutters because the old ones are falling apart or look bad with the new roof.

If i had a basement I would put gutters and downspouts & a dry well min 8'
away from house. Also depends on landscaping around house for snow guards. Snow or ice sliding off breaking shrubbery.

What is going to happen is the first good snow will wipe the gutters off you house. As the snow starts to melt it will slide and take gutters with it. (Ask me how I know).

With a steel roof you need to lower the gutters about 2" so the snow will go over the gutters. You should not need larger gutters. This is what I had to do to keep gutters on my shop. I am in NW TN so you get more snow than me.

I have a metal roof...install several rows of snow slide guards on it, easy and cheap. You may not need new gutters but maybe a few more downspouts.

If you think about it, the gutters fill no faster with a metal roof compared to any other kind. The rain may begin to fill the gutters sooner, but once a shingled roof becomes saturated, it's going to dump water into gutters at the same rate.

I've had my metal roof about 10 years. Your old gutters will work fine. I would put snow guards over doors/deck or all around if you have a steep roof.

Like others have said your existing gutters will be fine. Now your gutter guards maybe a different story. We had a big snowfall (for NC) this winter. A real heavy sticky snow, perfect for snowballs. But as it worked it's way down the roof it tore off all my gutter guards. I hated them anyway, I was always getting poked anytime I had anything to do on the roof. They were the metal screen type that bulged up in the middle. So now I just ordered some new flat, aluminum, screw down type. I also have some snow guards i'm going to put up. Overall I love the metal roof.

We put on a standing seam roof a couple of years ago.
No gutters. When it rains, it usually evaporates before
it gets to the edge.
