I don't recall when I bought my first Centennial but I don't believe I have carried a Chef's Special since then. The "hammerless" design is just a natural for a 2-inch barreled revolver, IMHO.
I have a 642 and love it.
Really, for most CCW firearms a hammer is not a positive thing to have.
They can snag on clothing, and really single action on a 2" barrel is nothing more than a pipe dream.
It took me a while to catch on, but the Airweights
are almost perfect. Wish there was an I-frame hammerless
snubby.
