Make mine a 642, shoots like a dream and no prob knocking out .38 Special +P by the boxfull. For me carry has always been some small J frame or other, the 60, 640, 642, Performance Center 640 ported etc. Just love 'em!
I've carried a 642 for the last 9 years. Around 1000 rounds through it with a CT 405 set of grips. Pocket carry in a Mika holster or in a Blackhawk CQC Serpa paddle.
I do like it.
well mine is not the s&w mine is the ruger hammer-less 357 five shot and I carry it as one of two back ups to my E series 1911 sometimes in my boot most of the time in the pocket the other backup is the xds 45...
it is good to carry backups because anything man made will break when least expect it
I own two too. Started with the one with the Crimson Trace but finally figured out a second was faster than any reloading....so got the second without the Crimson Trace.
Bought a Galco Miami Classic to put them in. Most pleased.
I answered the poll, do not own a hamerless J frame. I do own a 632, would that be considered hamerless? I bought it because I wanted the SA option even though I wouldn't think of carrying in that manner.
My main carry lately has been an LCR 357. I like the reliability and safety of a revolver. The small J frame conceals very well for me in a holster that carries the gun grip almost 12 o'clock position. owb with just an un tucked short sleeve shirt. I did notice a Sheriff checking me out but he didn't say anything.
My 442 is currently resting AIWB and is my favorite carry weapon. I agree with an earlier poster that a "hammer-less" J-frame is much like a 10-22 or 870 in that everyone should have at least one.
I have a 442. I use to carry a 649 that I bought when I finished the police academy. I'd say that the J-frame (especially the 642/442) and the Ruger LCP are the most actually carried CCW weapons today. Next up would probably be Baby Glocks.
Many people own full sized pistols and even compact pistols, but sub-compact guns are what gets carried daily and most often. Even 1911 fans will often admit slipping a J-Frame in their pocket to go up to the Stop N Rob.
I own the M&P full size, compact and picking a shield up this weekend and I still carry the 642 airweight. Its light easy to conceal and packs a punch.
I did switch out the grip for a Hogue (huge improvement in accuracy) and it allows my wife to be able to shoot it without the bruises.
I have a feeling she is going to start carrying the 642 which means I will wear a shield for awhile - but I bet in a few weeks another 642 will be in the arsenal!
This one is with me most of the time. Had some work done. This photo is from Gemini's website as I haven't taken a picture of mine yet. It's exactly the same. I practice with .38 sp. and carry with 125 grain .357 mags. It really isn't that hard to handle with the big rounds.
