Do you own/collect books?

I have books upon books! When I take a dirt nap, my Daughter will back a box truck up to haul them off. I keep a card catalog box on my desk. The valuable ones have a card in there. She and grandkids have been shown the value of them. This is to keep them from being sold at a yard sale for $0.50 a piece!

I said this before but I prefer real books over ebooks because of the memories that I have attached to the real books.

I have a copy of Johnny Tremaine that I got from my 5th grade classroom in 1977. That book still sitting on my bookshelf and I can pick it up and I remember sitting back in the reading corner of the classroom reading it.

I have a copy of Team Yankee by Harold Coyle that I found sitting on top of an oil drum in a POL dump at Graff.

The book has oil stains on it and it's got powder residue smudged on it from me reading it between fire missions. I remember reading in the book about what a pain in the *** it was getting in and out of an M113 with an M16 and LBE on and relating immediately. I remember reading about the main character eating a dehydrated pork patty MRE while I was sitting there eating a dehydrated Pork Patty MRE.

I can't get that memory from a Kindle.

I enjoy reading and have been a life-long reader. Largely history and crime.

However, I don't do fiction. I find I have too little time, and all of my books have been used to advance my knowledge on topics.

Most of my books I have now relate to my profession and advancing my knowlege and tactics in how I do my work and have been very helpful.

I also prefer a physical book, preferably hardbound. I don't much care for "E-Books" as I find staring at a screen less enjoyable to read.

I wouldn’t say that I “collect” books, but rather accumulate them. I keep my favorites (Ruark, Hemingway, Orwell, etc) and my ever-climbing-in-value firearm reference books.
