I like both, depending on what I am doing, if I'm shooting middle distance I'll use scope/magnified...
If I'm shooting CQ then a red dot is perfect.
Best of both worlds is Eotech with G33

Was gonna quip about huntin Tali with my souped up gatt, then decided not too. Can't be doing with snarky comments for the guys who don't get or understand British humour (or spelling for that matter)...

I didn't like the accuracy of the red dot on my 15-22 so I plan to mount it on my home defense Mossberg shotgun, for the M&P 15 22 I mounted a 4 power scope which works great.

Primary Arms / Me Too

I have an old Primary Arms red dot on it. I've never really tried to run any magnification on it. If I shot farther, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
I totally agree with your choice for sights. I have the primary arms red dot on mine too. For what a .22 LR is capable of the red dot
allows fast on target and I've found the PA sight very accurate.
Now if I was shooting at mice heads off a ways__a scope may do well.
But, here on the Sonoran Desert I'll leave the mice to the coyotes.
One of their main dishes.
I wouldn't object to a regular reflex but the PA sight has better protection against bumps.
For those who prefer a scope__I'm perfectly alright with that too.
One of my reflex sights ( Shield RMS) on my Shield has a feature I like and would work well with these rifles too__ zero once and leave it on constantly. (There are no buttons) The battery will last two to three years. Worried about battery dying when out shooting? Just change batteries once a year. They're inexpensive and the Shield has a drawer that comes out the side for changing
batteries.
I have the Romeo 1 on my P320. I'm leaving it on constantly too.
Since the dot goes off when there's no motion and comes back on
instantly when you move the pistol___I'm seeing how long the battery lasts. (Not suggested by Sig but....giving it a go )
As more and more are discovering and actually using these red dot sights___ It won't be long before they become common ___ and maybe less $$$?
Stay safe

I used a fixed 4 on my gun for a while. It works well if you do your part. Sorta like an ACOG. Won a couple of matches with it in that guise. Have switched back to a RDS style sight. Still awesome either way.

I would not, personally, use a magnification higher than 4 because of the style of shooting I do. There are better guns for plinking at 100m+ than the 15-22.

Had a cheap reddot on my MP15-22 for a couple months but switched to a Nixon p-rimfire 2×7×32 much more accurate now especially at 50 yds

I am running a Bushnell AR223 1-4x scope that has an illuminated dot/ horseshoe reticule. Best of both worlds, quick acquisition and magnification if needed.

ANOTHER OPTION CHOICE NEEDED, NONE!

The trend that ALL rifles MUST HAVE an optical sight, often a WAY too big & over magnified hubble telescope (for a lowly 22)is simply false & at times makes things worse than the (2 different sized) peep sights that come with the rifle. ;) Vision/ acquisition speed/ intended use/ range/ field of view/ personal preference matter. A smaller sized low powered variable scope in the 1-3, 1-4, 1.5 x 5 should handle "about" anything for a 22 LR, with it's "short" range IMO.

I have a scope on my Ruger 10-22 for distance and precision. The S&W 15-22 will get a red dot for speed.

My 15-22 is for speed and rimfire challenge events so it wears a 30mm no name Chinese red dot I bout online for less than NZ $30 (US$20) including delivery from China.

With it I can use the pop up iron sights for quick and dirty and switch to the red dot for slightly longer and more accurate shooting. But with both sights I can ring an 8" plate at 50 yards al day long :D

For running iron sights in competition I have to remove the dot, but I can simply reinstall it, pop up the sights and check the dot is right on the top of the front post within a few minutes.

I have two other "holographic" style red dots on .22's. Another semi and a lever action. The semi has no other sights, the lever still has the iron sights but they can't be used in the same way as the 15-22 ones can.

For accuracy at distance I have two bolt action .22's fitted with 4 X 32 scopes.
