Have used a Cpap for at least 15 years and doesn’t really help. Was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I usually lay there without the mask on for a couple minutes and sometimes fall asleep if really tired. If I get the mask on before I fall asleep I wake tired and if I fall asleep without the mask/machine I wake severely tired. The best I can do is what I call a neutral, not tired and not rested. Seems waking up ready to go, full of energy is a thing of the past!!

Always wondered if people my age are in the same boat. Please list your age to compare, I am 72 yrs old. Had quadruple bypass last Christmas, Larry

I have no idea where you are weight wise, but when I shed 50 lbs, I also lost all my apnea symptoms.
👍👍👍👍

I have been struggling with the same thing. Bought new mattresses and tried a few things to change my mindset at bedtime and even as far as changing evening eating habits.

I have mild apnea that is mostly affected by weight. I am 58

Also I have a physically demanding job and find myself very sore at this age.

The oddest thing for me is while away on vacation, not home I sleep very well in general. Curious if others have changes in sleep while away.

Most newer C-pap / Bi-pap machines will give you a detailed report on how your doing. My Doctor does an annual phone visit where she can adjust pressure and ramp up pressure without me bringing in my machines.

I've been on therapy since my mid 40’s and I'm 70 now. Originally I was having 50 sleep interruptions an hour, very severe. With my current treatment I'm down to .5 interruptions per hour.

I awake rested everyday. If I don't use my machine I'll fall asleep mid afternoon and I don't care what I'm doing. Not good at 70mph down the highway.

I'd suggest that you get with your sleep doctor.

I'am 81 had a Stent put in 6/16/17 when I wake up I usually sit up for about a minute then I stand up and start the day. I've got diabetes, ckd stage 3a, & a few other things. Slowed down from 100 mph to about 45 mph. Still shoot my guns once a week about 250 to 300 rounds a week, play with my 3 dogs, and stiil look at the ladies as long as my wife doesn't notice.
Get tired when I walk, my back hurts during & after I go to the range.
This is the golden years, I call it the rusty years.

I'm 65 and was also diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. They said I stopped breathing 300 something times a night during my sleep study.

I've tried a Bi-pap and a C-pap and can't use either one. They both woke me up several times a night with a severe dry mouth, and both had the water chamber and had several adjustments attempted.

In fact, they came knocking on my door one day wanting the machine back because their little machine was telling on me. (that I wasn't using it)

I typically sleep about 4 hours before I have to make a bathroom trip, and then the dog wants to do his thing. Sometimes I can go right back to sleep, and sometimes I end up turning on the TV until I doze back off.

I wake up tired, but I've been doing that for years now. Up until I was about 50 or so I was always a morning person, up by 5 am and going to work (before retirement), or just going downstairs to my reloading/gun room to piddle on weekends.

Now days it's closer to 8 or 9 before I have to get up to pee again, so I just take the dog out and we both stay up. He jumps up on the couch with me and goes back to sleep. Lazy dog.

Originally tested 15 yrs ago, the times I woke an hour while sleeping was 70!! Doctor kept suggesting different things to do over the years but nothing worked. I do use an older Bipap not controlled over the air waves. Max weight was 225 and currently 190, as low as 180 since the stents. Last sleep study they never told me to put the mask on, didn’t meet one of the 3 requirements. Thinking of seeing a different sleep doctor since the last left the Cleveland Clinic. Did auto body thru life, very stressful especially at the end. Too many demands and everything had to be done NOW!

We walk 2 miles a day with a big hill, been doing this for 20 years. Larry

I had surgery to mitigate sleep apnea. Works pretty well overall. I am 68 and had the surgery done almost 20 years ago. They removed my uvula, tonsils, adenoids, and much of my soft palate. It works, but it is a painful recovery. Very difficult to eat for about a week and a half.

78 yo, and asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Wake up hyper and ready for the day. Makes my wife furious because she needs coffee before doing anything. Power nap helps.

I've been blessed with good health my whole life. I'm 70, take zero medications, sleep like a log, and wake up naturally when it gets light outside. I play pickleball 3 or 4 times a week and am competitive with folks 20 years younger. I used to wake up with a back ache until we got a memory foam mattress -- haven't had one since.

I feel for those of you who have trouble sleeping.

I know some of you ain't gonna buy this, but...

A "My Pillow" pillow does it for me.

Really.

After extensive neck surgery and about five-years of different pillow experiments and giving up on a decent night's sleep, I tried that guy's pillow.

Voila!

It's a godsend.

65 and ever since retirement at 62 I've totally messed up my sleep schedule.

Wake up, good to go for maybe 4-5 hours and then get some kind of Garfield nap attack or something.

This goes on 24 hours a day.

Thinking if I get back on some kind of sleep schedule I'll be alright, but that would require motivation and discipline and I'm retired.

I am going to talk to the wife about trying these. We both don’t sleep well. Her complaint is with the pillow.

I use a cpap and don’t sleep well. But I am also in a lot of pain from a bad disc and my legs so I toss and turn all night. I also have problems with getting the mask to seal on my face. Despite the air leakage the Doc says since I sleep all night he is happy with the results.

O.P. When is the last time you saw your sleep doctor? I see mine once a year and bring my machine with me so it can be checked.

My experience

I have no idea where you are weight wise, but when I shed 50 lbs, I also lost all my apnea symptoms.
👍👍👍👍

I had ac1 pushing 700 (Very bad). High LDL (Bad cholesterol) and Low HDL (Good cholesteral) and High Triglcerides (Bad)
I averaged 275 pounds
I was type 2 and my Doctor was wanting to put me on insulin
Her husband is also a Doctor and specializes in weight loss and bariatric surgery. He discussed with her and I then did...

3 things
1. Low Carb / And or Keto (High Fat is good. Avoid Vegetable Oil but Beef tallow, butter, olive oil etc... all good. I cut out most bread, pasta, potatoes...you can google
2. Intermittant Fasting (Just skip ONE meal a day)
3. Walk at a brisk pace...where you can still talk but not strolling. Start slow maybe 2 days a week and work up
Add in light weight work out...5 pounds even 15-20 minutes

In one year I lost 75 pounds, my a1c is at 4.75 to 5.0
My HDL and LDL and Triglycerides all in line

I was able to stop the use of my bi-pap. I always hated it

That was 3 years ago and I have maintained it

I still and will likely always need to take a statin and I recently went from Janument (Really time release metformin) to Monjauro. Its a weekly injectible.

Oh one additional medicine is testosterone. Yes it has its downsides and I take a few aspirin a day. I dont take a lot but enough to return some of the energy I did not realize I had lost

Even though I have made drastic positive improvement I will have to continue the meds

Just a my story but hey it worked for me. Might work for others too and I really, really hated the bi-pap every night

My son got similar results as well.

I was that guy's biggest critic.

Wifey bought their mattress topper. It came with two free pillows. I laughed.

I fluffed up one of those pillows, placed it on top of a thin pillow (I'm a big guy) before I went to bed. It was the best night's sleep I'd had in like, forever.

And I have a mountain of orthopedic pillows.

That’s remarkable, keep up the good work.
