Hello all, I need some help trying to determine if my 32 Safety Hammerless,1st model, will qualify for "antique status" . None of my books give much info as to when these were made other than start and finish dates.
It is s/n 67,976.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Brian

I've been tracking serial numbers of these. It is definitely an "antique". #65xxx shipped 10/1896, #68xxx shipped 12/1898.

Ed,
You must be thinking about 38 Safetys. The 32 Safety as you well know was manufactured until 1902 and ended at serial # 91417. Any gun manufactured after 1898 is not considered an antique according to the BATF. I'm working from memory here (always an iffy proposition for me), but I think I remember the cut off for antique 1st model 32 Safety Hammerless guns in the 81000 range.
I'm hesitant to correct you because you certainly know a lot more about antique Smiths than I do, but everyone has a brain fart once in awhile.

Hello.
I am totaly new with this.Maybee I read totaly wrong,but Standard Catalog of S&W page 74 saies clear all .32 safety Hammerless below 91400 is antique(your country).That practically all.Cant I trust this?Or have I missunderstand?

I believe the info about the 32 Safety Hammerless is a typo in the book. I explained more fully in the thread that asks about Pre 1898 S N listing.
