DOB for 18-3

Hi, I may be acquiring an 18-3 as a shooter (TH, TT, TG). I checked the serialization in the SCSW book and could not find 812xxxx with no K-prefix as shown in the book.

Could someone please educate me on this matter?

I actually have the same question on my 10-5. It has no prefix, 914xx is the first three in the serial. It also has G9 stamped below the serial along with 29 inside a circle.

There is no such thing as a seven digit numerical serial number on modern Smith guns. An 18-3 would most definately have a K prefix. Did you take the number off the butt of the gun?

I'm in a agreement with you. Even as a novice, I have handled quite a few of these older S&W's as of late. I'm thinking that the seller misread the the number (I'm young, but have bifocals, so I'm sure that it happens to most of us!).

I won the gun, so I guess that I can confirm the number when it arrives.

I'll make you a bet he is quoting a stock number or some such. Even assembly numbers don't go that high and are usually five digit numbers. You'll know the correct number when you get it.
