I have SN N136700 which shipped in July 1974. So yours is probably a little earlier in 1974. The barrel is likely 8 3/8 rather than 8 3/4 though. These didn't always ship in order though so you would need a letter to know the exact ship date and to where it was shipped. Nice addition, enjoy it.

Yes, $100 seems expensive and for a run of the mill model it probably won't be worth that to learn which wholesaler to which it shipped. You never know though. Just recently someone here had one lettered that came back as having been shipped to Elmer Keith; home run there for $100.

Also, if you join the SWCA ($60 a year I think) the good Dr. Jinks will give you a ship date month and year for free. And if you join the S&W Historical Association too then the letter fee is $75.
