New (To ME) Model 18
Never had a S&W .22 revolver. I was in a shop I'd never visited before and saw what I thought was a Model 15. Nope, it was a Model 18. Price tag was $475. I didn't hesitate.
Got it today. Pretty clean on outside. Took it home and broke it down. Pretty clean on inside, too. Cleaned and lubed and back together. Grips are original and numbered to the gun.
One thing that is out is the cylinder is a bit difficult to swing open. You have to move the latch about halfway forward. Never had that issue before. The ejector rod wasn't loose before I tore it down and it isn't loose now. The front sight is painted red. Looks like a good enough job. I'll keep it.
I initially posted about this gun in the 1961-1980 section, but this gun shipped in 1959, so I posted it here.
Here are some pics. Looks just like a Model 15. I have one of those, too. Unfired in the box from 1967.
