trying to purchase what I think is a pre war M&P or what others call a mod 1905 4th change with a sn# 626809. No military markings or lanyard so assuming somewhere in the 1930's. 4 inch barrel, fixed sights and square butt. I need date of manufacture and if the square butt is scarce as one book noted. thanks in advance - BILL

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Someone will come along to give you a better date but I'd put it at 1939. And no it's not rare as a square butt. That was a typographical error that has been fixed.

SN 626809 would put its probable shipment in the 1930-31 period, but possibly up to a few years later. It's fairly certain it was manufactured in 1929-30. The square butt rarity reference you mention is incorrect, as square butts are very common.
