Ran across this model 10 locally and the seller claims it was issued by a Kalifornia Department of Corrections entity. From other pictures that I've found online it appears that some NY departments issued model 10's with that same type of ID tag attached to the side, but I haven't seen any Kali ones like it. Serial number prefix is CAH. Can anyone provide any input? There are no frame stamps/engravings below the cylinder window.

FWIW
I have a 10 just like one in pic. I’m pretty sure these are NY dept of corrections. I’ve had a few Ca revolvers. Ca Dept Corrections on mine stamped CDC

But don’t take this to the bank. The marked revolvers I have not really worth lettering so I’m going off some commentary over the years.

That is ABSOLUTELY a NYS Dept of Correctional Services Gun. I have one. And have many friends that worked in NY Cottections. Earlier one said NYS below cylinder.

Thank you. I asked the shop how they knew for certain it was from Kali, or if the consignor simply told them that. They said they had no way of knowing for sure.
Just curious; how did they attach the tag to the frame; with an epoxy of some sort? Assuming it's aluminum, correct?

I think that it is aluminum. Understand that it can be removed with cold and a pry bar. I never tried that because I wanted it to remain as used. It is from the NY Dept. of Corrections.

My LGS in CT had a bunch of those NY DOC Model 10s for sale about 3 years ago with the holster & speed loaders "Bald1" posted. I bought a Model 10-10 identical to yours & a 10-14. The tag on the 10-14 fell off before I bought it and only glue remained which was easily removed. They sold for $336 at the time

Yes it’s an adhesive that holds it on. Not sure what kind of adhesive. One of my best friends drove the transport bus for NY DOCS. He often carried one. When I showed him mine he didn’t have much interest in it. Said it reminded him of a job he couldn’t wait to retire from. He left at 50 after 25 yrs

Definitely NY. I used to work at a trauma center that took care of the inmates. When armed officers accompanied the prisoners this is what they were carrying. Near the end of my time there, they were slowly transitioning to glock 17’s.
What I know:
The HB 10 was standard corrections issue for decades. The NYSP ( state police) were replacing the 17’s ( NY being one of the first big agencies to adopt glock in the late 80’s) and transferred the 17’s to corrections.
NY as many know is a VERY anti 2A state. They even have a law that police agencies can not publicly release/ sell guns as surplus, only transfer to another agency or destroy. The corrections department must have been a loophole to allow the revolvers sold, as I was pretty shocked knowing what I know of NY that these did get released.
