Does a desiccant inside a safe pull in moisture?

I have Goldenrods in my safes, have bags of desiccant in my safes and am wondering if having a lot of desiccant inside of a safe will "draw" in moisture which normally would not migrate into a warmed safe. Since I have to dry out the bags, it makes me wonder if they are pulling in extra moisture instead of only absorbing the trapped moisture.
Anyone out there know for sure, what the case is?

The locksmith who installed my safe said yes they do. The safe came with a big bag of it and he stated he throws them out. He has been in business over 30 years here in Florida so I believe him.

We have the A/C on 9-10 mths of the year so that takes care of the moisture inside the house.

An old trick used to be to use rice, whole rice not the instant kind and put some on the bottom, not a lot, on a paper towel and when it all swells up toss it out and do over.

I can't speak to other models of Safe's but the one we have is supposed to be Fire Resistant up to a certian amount of time. How it does this is that between the outer case and inner shell is a substance that's designed to draw moisture in between the two. Because of this I do use two of the big desiccant bags and stay up on keeping them recharged.

So far, and it's been a few years now, everything has stayed nice & dry in there.

IMO , yes. Dessicant packs should only be used in a sealed air-tight container like ammo cans. Most gun safes are not air tight.

If ya notice , any commercial goods that have dessicant packs are hermetically sealed.

I have Golden Rods in my safes for over 20yrs with no rust on anything , and it does get very humid here.

I have nothing but a goldenrod in my safe, which is located in an unheated, un-airconditioned area here in SE Tennessee. No rust problems after 5 years. I don't think you need anything other than the goldenrod. I don't.
