Does anyone else find Glock people to be more than a little arrogant?

They act like if you're not carrying a Glock then there is something wrong with you.

Glock, to them, is the greatest things since sliced bread.

I've seen this with LEOs too all over the net who prefer something else. They get shoved around with the Glock mentality in policy and requirements.

I'm not knocking people who like Glocks or necessarily the pistol itself. Personally I don't like them, I would never buy one. They're ugly, they're plastic, they don't feel good to me, they don't have a hammer or. But I understand some people feel different. I have a lot of friends who like Glocks and will swear on them. But I'm talking about a mindset and influence that seems to make up a lot of people these days.

Evidently they make a decent gun and have a superb public relations department.

I don't care for them myself, but don't you know the gun magazines and others that carry their advertising just love them.

The key to selling these type of guns is to persuade by any means possible those at the top of various policing agencies to use their guns. Then to get them featured positively in as many gun magazines as possible.

For every gun they can place in the hands of policemen and get them accustomed to using them, they will sell many to civilians, who tend to follow military and policing agencies in their gun buying habits.

Back to your original question, I have noticed a bit of attitude from some of the Glock owners. Possibly, it is more obvious to me because I don't care for their plastic space-age design, which much to my amazement, is spreading like wildfire to other manufacturers.

Actually I seem to see less of that than I did when I owned my second-generation G22 and G19 back a ways. The SIG and Smith M&P owners, et al., get an awful lot of respect that I saw going only to those who packed Glocks years ago; and that doesn't count the groundswell of revolver appreciation and recognition of the value of an all-metal semi-auto (they're still "automatics" to me).

I see examples of the same "arrogance", if that's the word, among fans of big-bore magnum revolvers, gnat-weight J-frames, and so on. People tend to have strong opinions about their choices of firearms. Not like me, I simply know that J- and K-frame .38 Specials are the only way to go. ;)

But then I hang out here a lot...

I hear you, I do not like them either

That said, I have purchased or traded for eleven in the last four years. I sold two, gave two to my son, still have six, plus another in police custody as it was stolen and later recovered, held as evidence. Glocks are available, affordable, durable, reliable, replaceable, accurate, user friendly, easy to maintain, and tons of accessories are available for them at reasonable prices.

I live 35 miles from Glock, Inc. in Smyrna, GA. The guards at the gate know my face and name. The service techs will service your Glock pistol for free, while you wait. Night sights are affordable. Old, worn, out of date magazines are replaced for free. I took a used gen. II Glock 17 in for service that got 29 parts replaced for free, including the frame. I can not complain about the customer service there.

I alternate between a Glock 26 and a S&W 3953 for CC. At this moment I am wearing a S&W Shield, but am undecided about it so far. The 3953 is difficult to beat.

You do have to realize some people were not raised around firearms at all and may have purchased a Glock as their first firearm, or been issued a Glock when they went to work for a LE agency of some sort. With no prior experience with any other type firearm, they believe they are carrying and using the best there is. This is simply a lack of education, time and experience can open their eyes.

I find it sad that so many people believe revolvers are antiquated and useless. A good, cool, competent shooter with a S&W #10 and a pocket full of speed loaders is a formidable adversary.

I'm a Glock owner and like them, but I own 10-15 S&W's to every Glock. It's not the Glock Owners that are the issue. The issue is the Glock Fan Boy. Glock's are viewed as Progressive guns, as in Evolutionary by some. They attract many people who consider themselves Progressive thinkers, PC Champions etc. If you go to the Glock forum you'll find there are a ton of radical atheist's, PC "champs" and Liberals who rave there. There is a religion forum, as well as a politics forum there. They rage against God and for every liberal, pro-gay etc cause there is. There are the same DB's that anger most people on any issue, not just Glocks, they just happen to be discussing Glocks at some point.

My post is not meant as a put down of another forum etc. There are some really good people there too, but 60-70% meet the description I gave and would proudly agree to it. I say this as an Observation, not as a put down or judgement call.

In fairness, last night they did start a stand up for Jesus thread and many commented. There are good people there too.

I'm giving a factual Observation, not qualitative judgement on religion's place in a forum so let's all be big people here and refrain from the need to counter point your own religious views here and get the thread closed. I'm merely stating an observation. If it's killing you, feel free to PM me with your disagreement with my thoughts.

One other BIG THANK YOU to the forum owner and moderators, thank you for the no religion or politics stand on here. This forum is so much more peaceful and decent because of it. You are the class of the gun forums. I could quit the other forum tonight and not miss it, but I'd miss this one!!

I hope I stayed within the Spirit of the rules, it was the only way I knew to explain it. My apologies for any offense it given.

For handguns I have two Glocks, two Colts, three Smith & Wessons, three Rugers, and a Freedom Arms. If someone knocks one I'll talk about another brand.

I own Glocks and actually shoot them more often, but I collect S&W's.

Fan Boys are everywhere. Start talking about motorcyles, cars, beer or whatever and you will soon figure out who the Fan Boys are and that they really don't usually have a broad knowledge. I rather talk with someone who knows a little about a lot.

Yep because often people buy a Taurus 24/7 or some other sub par junk, shoot a thousand rounds in a year......maybe....and proclaim "its just as good"

I left the 1911 forum for this very reason. Seems to be just hatred for Glocks. Someone posts "Hey look i bought a H&K USP" and everyone screams hooray. Say that with the word "Glock" and you get some very negative remarks despite the fact that both are polymer, and the HK is just as "blocky" and even thicker then the Glock, but nevermind that. Or when people start spewing out phrases like "Glock leg" because they once saw a photo on the interwebz, although no mention of M&P, Taurus's, Walthers and other striker fired guns having "Glock leg".

Lets not forget "steel is real" despite the fact that no one can tell if its quality steel or if its been heat treated properly.

Us Glock owners have to put up with a lot if flack from those who are basically stuck in the past ....no offense. When i talk to a HK owner we can discuss the + and - of both firearms and why we like what we like. When the same discussion is between me and someone who carries an old S&W or a Colt the discussion is 99% of the time about "pretty" and "steel is real". Basically childish argument.

I've owned a number of Glocks (G19, G21SF, G23, G26, G30SF, G36) and except for the G36, the grip just doesn't fit me well, since I have small hands. (They were all Gen3 models.) I don't dislike Glocks...they aren't BBQ guns, but they have their own "beauty" if you will, in that they fulfill their purpose, generally very well.

Ford, Chevy, Coke,Pepsi.....all good just a little bit different. 1911 fans are very hard core and can get their little noses very high up in the air. I have been a S&W person for a looong time. I will carry a Diamondback 9 or 380, S&W 638 or a Glock 36 depending on the day. That said a Glock 23 is my constant companion if I'm outside or in an environment that I want to be safe in. If 15rds of .40 S&W Ranger T doesn't get it then...it ain't going to make a difference what I carry or like.

Glock's are simple, easy to care for, accurate "tools" that usually do not have drool spots on them! Now my Smiths, I have to wipe the drool marks off them. If you don't like a Glock or their owners.....hey then there is still some people in the world for Glock to convert!!

(why does Glock come up 'red underlined' as misspelled as I write this on the S&W forum??)

I recently sold a pristine 3953TSW with box and papers as I could not get used to the DAO. I fully intended on replacing it with a 3913TSW, but then this very nice M696 became available and well so long funds for the 3913TSW. LOL

I don't hate Glock. Just don't care for striker fired handguns. Last one I tried was a Ruger SR9. Sweet pistol, didn't trust it. Traded it on. The wife has bit of the limp wrist syndrome. I could not make the SR9 jam, she could not fire 5 rounds without a stovepipe. Just my 2 cents

I did not care for my first S&W 3913 and swapped it for a Glock 17, that I do like. Back in February I acquired a second 3913 with the intention of giving it a try with a more open mind. I tried, but just do not like it as much as a 3953.

I recently saw this on a Glock forum:

"Does anyone else find S&W people to be more than a little arrogant?

They act like if you're not carrying a S&W then there is something wrong with you.

S&W, to them, is the greatest things since sliced bread."
Just kidding!! :D

WELL-DUH !!

The reason is that there is something wrong with you if you carry anything but a Smith & Wesson REVOLVER.

"Arrogant"? Hmmmph - "Right" would be more appropriate...

I have a very catholic (look up the definition in a good dictionary before you get your panties in a wad) outlook on handgun ownership. I have 1 Savage, 1 Sig Sauer, 2 Colts, 2 Rugers and 4 Smith & Wesson's. This is the only firearms forum I frequent so you know where my heart lies. I don't own a Glock because I have only fired one and that was in 1987 and it felt like I was holding a club. I am sure there have been many improvements in design since then but I haven't been tempted to find out. When I buy something new it will be another S&W. And yeah, I am one of those old codgers who thinks steel is real as nothing listed above is plastic.
