Anyone not own a 9mm? And the big question is why?

The Illinois State Police issued the S&W Model 39 to their troopers in 1967, making the ISP the first American state police force to issue a semiautomatic pistol as a duty weapon to their officers.

The Beretta M9 was adopted by the United States military as their service pistol in 1985.

The Luger was produced in several models and by several nations from 1898 to 1949. They were brought to the US as War Trophies after WWI in 1918 and after WWII in 1945.

I cannot create a Poll but I assume that 100% of the Forum knows the 9×19mm Parabellum (also known as 9mm Luger, 9mm NATO or simply 9mm) is a rimless, centerfire, tapered firearms cartridge. That is extremely popular here and aboard.

I did want to hijack another popular thread Anything besides 9mm

Got my first handgun on Christmas, 1988. I made it all the way to a couple weeks before the 1994 AWB before buying my first 9mm because Clinton basically said in a few weeks that I could not buy a hi-cap.

i made it -14- years between that first 9mm and my 2nd 9mm!

However these days I have a huge load of 9mm handguns. For me, the fact is that I am not particularly attracted to the 9mm cartridge. However, there are so many fantastic handguns chambered for the round, that’s how I ended up chasing so many of them.

I have nine handguns. Only one is a 9mm, a Shield. A second, a SIG P320 was a 9mm, but I converted it to a .357 SIG. Over the years, I've come to prefer stouter rounds, so mostly what I shoot these days are .357 SIG and .45 acp. Not only are these stouter rounds more likely to disrupt the intentions of a bad guy, they're more accurate for me at the range. As a result, I rarely shoot my Shield 9 these days.

Up until a month ago, I was in the “no 9mm” category as I am heavily invested (a relative term due to my small accumulation of S&W J- and K-frame revolvers) in .38Spl and .357 with a smattering of .45ACP.

I have lusted for an Sig P365 after shooting one on the range about a year ago but had avoided the temptation and questioned the need to stock another caliber of ammunition…until now. I may have also fallen into line with concerns about capacity anxiety.

I recently picked up a NIB Sig 365 micro w/safety and am waiting for my travel schedule to settle down to take it to the range and put it through its paces. I’ll then consider the Sig to replace (or supplement?) my trusted 640-1 Pro for EDC.

I have placed orders for a TT Gunleather Slim XC for IWB and a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard for OWB so can already see where this is headed.

For a 69 year old man I bought my first 9mm about 1.5 years ago , A m&p 4" compact thumb safety and optic ready . I figure one day I may need the optic option or no longer care to deal with the 40sw or 45 pistols . I carried a lw commander for 33 of my 38 years as my EDC but now its just a m&p 40sw full size . After losing 45lb over the last few years I recently bought a hellcat pro comp and a appendix holster to see how that works out . Like the hellcat pro comp very much and it is a 15 or 17 shot pistol too . If I carry a 9mm if maybe filled with underwood extreme de3fense 68gr ammo after doing some testing with it .

Around 2005 I came to the conclusion that this whole self-loading pistol thing might be more than a fad. I figure I better get me one. Bought a Taurus 9mm for next to nothing on a Black Friday deal at Academy. Worked reliably but not exactly an easy gun to shoot, or accurate. But more than serviceable as a defensive weapon. Spent more on a Springfield 1911 in 9mm. Better, but still not exactly my favorite gun to shoot. Then I picked up another Taurus (but a metal frame one) because it was a deal.

Not all that excited about them. I've tried a bunch of rentals but haven't really found anything I'm dying to get over what I have. My favorite 9mm is my Ruger Blackhawk convertible.

I only have them because they are the most popular caliber and reloading components are everywhere and inexpensive. Otherwise I would not bother. But I'm not wild about autoloaders in general so it's not necessarily a reflection on the caliber.

Y2K. Computers were going to stop. Airplanes would fall out of the sky. And we would end up fighting for our lives against mutant zombie bikers and blue helmets.

And it occurred to me that we might have to resupply from the bodies of the dead.

I had most of the common cartridges covered. 30/06, 308, 223. Had a Mini 30 so 7.62 x 39 was covered.

Had 38 and 357, had 45. Oh no! No 9 mm. But that would probably be the most common pistol carried. I probably need to get one.

So I got a 9 mm top half for a 1911. Since then I have gotten a few. And as Sevens said, it's not about the cartridge. I got a Luger. A red nine broom handle. A Radom. Beretta 92. I've even got a 940. Because I liked the gun. The cartridge was pretty irrelevant.

Had an H&K P7 a long time ago. Was thinking of another but the prices are astronomical. I found a S&W 659 at an auction that was part of a group where the wife took all the magazines put them in a bucket and sold them for $50, Sounded insane but the pistol was immaculate. Picked up a couple of 17 round MagGar's and loaded them with 16 rounds each. Both functioned perfectly so I am set for spray and pray. Gun was more accurate than I thought, but the Marlin 44 MAG carbine is there for that purpose. Ammo prices have dropped considerably, 200 rounds for less than a C note made in the USA.

Lets see. 9mm? Right now it's a Kahr MK9 Micro stainless with the elite trigger and an old Glock 19. I probably carry those two the most. Then there are two 547's, 3" and 4". Oh yea, the Colt AR6450 9mm carbine. It appears the 9mm pistol will be with us for a long, long time.

Got my first 9mm about 4 yrs ago, didn’t have a need for one. Now have 3. One for carrying and the 1911 is softer to shoot with reloads. Also a CZ Tactical Sport long slide, forgot the WW2 Luger my Dad brought back from Europe. Larry

I have three, all conventional double-actions that were purchased more than twenty-five years ago. They are seldom fired as I've lost all interest in the 9mm cartridge. I much prefer .357 revolvers and .45 ACP pistols.

I have owned firearms for almost 50 years, but never a 9 mm. Growing up in a small Midwest town in the 1960s/ 70's, they were not very common. For many years I was mostly interested in hunting and long guns. I always had a few handguns around, and the.22/38-357/ .45 choices were the easiest.
The cheap 9 mm ammo became more of a thing recently, but by now I shoot more .22 than anything else. I don't feel I have a specific bias against the 9, and have come close several times, but it never came about. I never say never, so maybe one of these days?

For years, I didn't have much use for one, but when Waffen Frankonia was selling DDR police P-08s for about 75 bucks, I figured I ought to have a Luger. Since then I fell off the wagon and a P-38, a couple of P-35s, a CZ-75 and a Model 39 got added to the collection. Then came the SIGs, a P226, P228 and a P225. The CZ75 and the P225 are my favorite shooters.

I currently don't. Just went through a second divorce and custody battle. Court and attorney fees were going on for over a year and I had to sell off the 9mm pistols to compensate. The revolvers stayed. I kept all my ammo so eventually will replace them when things in life get settled.

Revolver first. I picked up a P365 in 2022 to demystify the semi platform after being out of it for some 40 years. Got about 3600 rounds down range to date, easy to shoot, reliable, accurate—love that little pistol, my EDC. It is my only 9mm. I do prefer the larger calibers in my arsenal.

I bought my S&W 39 around 1971, sold it and replaced it with the Model 59. Purchased a used Model 469 with a custom Electroless brushed nickel finish which made it appear to be a Model 669. Eventually sold the Model 59 to my brother. At that point, I pretty much stopped selling off guns. Much to SWMBO's dismay, I didn't stop buying guns.

Somehow I've managed to pick up a G26, G19, G43, Beretta 92FS, Sig 250 DAO in 9mm and a Sig P365XL.

The rest of my "armory" is comprised of various examples of S&W, Colt, Ruger, Sig, Kimber, North American, Bond Arms, Remington, Walther, Bushmaster, and PSA in all the "popular" calibers.

As we only go around once, we might as well go around well armed.
