Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and wanted to get everybody's opinion on whether or not this serial number looks legit. It seems to me the placement is a little off. I don't have the gun in my possession so I can't tell whether or not the other numbers match. Thanks!

Welcome! Someone in 1966 just had a bad day centering the digits on the bottom of the grip frame.

This ^^^^^^^^^ and nothing more nefarious.

No Worries !!!

Looks like two sets of stamps were used. It looks to me that the first three numbers are shorter than the last three but they are inline. If you know someone that is a LEO they could run the serial number but that really might only show if it was ever listed as stolen. I guess you would have to contact S&W to see if the serial number is good for that model.
The gun looks like it could be a model 36.
