I have a couple of 44 da's that I would like to date. Can I, as a member, get that info before getting a factory letter?
Any help will be appreciated.

Mike - welcome to SWCA! If your revolvers are in 44 Russian caliber, the designation is 44 DA First Model. If 44-40, they are 44 DA Frontiers. bob 42 has already given you the location of ship date requests, but you can also get an approximate ship dates by using the SWCA Database located in the top blue section of the page. Also, be aware that all 44 DAs are considered antiques, since the frames were all manufactured before 1899. These revolvers sold well into the early 1900s, but the BATF classification is still antique.

Sorry - forgot to address your original question - The company logged their revolvers by the shipping date and not the date of manufacture. There are some eras where that information may be available, but I think that most all antique S&Ws only have shipping dates available. You can check with the S&W Historical Foundation and pose the question as to if there were manufacturing dates availalbe for 44 DAs.
