Hi all:

I will post pictures & details later, but could someone please advise of the Date Of Manufacture for a used stainless Model 63 (no dash) with serial #: AMT 7xxx ?

Thanks!

Model 63 (no dash) with serial #: AMT 7571

I've never seen a "AM" s/n. I collect s/n's and ship dates. I have 37 AL's and 21 AN's. Not a single AM.

Two questions....

1) Any chance you read the s/n incorrectly?

2) Do you have the factory box?

Per the SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson) the AMT prefix, if such a thing, would date to very late 1985 or into 1986 but that purely supposition based upon the available data.

The 63 no-dash was produced 1977 to 1982 so there is a mismatch with either bad information about the serial number or this is not a no-dash?

I could extrapolate a date, based on knowledge of the AL and AN s/n's I have. If I did, it would be Spring/Summer 1985. But it strikes me a odd I don't have a single AM s/n. Something I wasn't even aware of until this thread.

Hi all, thanks for the attempts to help...

It was "user error" on this end, sorry, and the correct # is AWT 7xxx.

I did confirm it is a no-pin (barrel) Model 63, as there is no dash and over 1/8" of blank steel after the model #.

Thanks!

Thanks Kernel!

I didn't have the box the other day, but just went back and got it today (as the shop had misplaced it).

So for under $700, I got a little used Model 63, no-dash, with the factory box and all the paperwork, the flat-steel screwdriver and a cleaning rod.

This will be a companion piece to my Model 631 32 Mag, so I am very pleased with the purchase. Now I just need to tune it up a little, like I've done with all my other Smiths.

Tight groups!

The 4-digit number below "special order" is 7294.

Now I am curious... What does that tell us?
