I enjoyed his Imus In The Morning program on TV. But then he got
in trouble over some remark he made about a girl's basketball team,
and lost the program. Haven't followed him much since. He did a lot
for kids with cancer. I would guess his wife and son will continue with
that program. A good man. He will be missed.

In my opinion the girls basketball thing was blown way out of proportion. That was his schtick. A grumpy old curmudgeon. How many times he’d call a guest a b*****d and they’d laugh about it. His kids with cancer work is admirable. I’d rather judge him by the good he’s done rather than what he said while trying to be funny, not to hurt.

The remark was just normal for Imus, and the reaction was way out
of proportion. If I'm remembering right, after he found out that they
were offended, he went to their college and apologized, but I guess
they were not forgiving. After all, he was a shock jock.

He sold the ranch in 2018 supposedly after a bad fall and a couple broken ribs made it hard for him to breathe in the high altitude the ranch was located.
He did great work while he was active.

I cought him on the air at times. I always tried to catch the show when David Hackworth was a guest. Enjoyed listening to him as I had a couple friends that "worked" with him in Vietnam.

I found him tolerable at times, and intolerable at others.
One night out at a bar on the upper east side I couldn't help overhearing him and Mike Lupica whining and complaining about everything from how cold the beer wasn't to everything else under the sun. That pretty much put me off him and his show.
That said, I have no personal animus and am sorry to hear of his passing.

I knew Don Imus and I had the opportunity to give him some handgun instructions. He used to visit our range called the NY Sportsmans Club on Murray Street in lower Manhattan where I was working following retirement. Most times, he was accompanied by Bo Deitl, a retired NYPD cop who became somewhat of a celebrity with a successful private investigation business and numerous TV appearances as an expert witness. Imus gave us some favorable publicity and the range owners presented him with a Glock 26.
Following 9/11, much of lower Manhattan was closed to traffic and the range was only three short blocks from the World Trade Center. As with many lower Manhattan businesses, we did not survive the economic consequences of 9/11.

Listened to him on WNBC from New York 1972-1973. Back them he was funny-funny, and for some of his bits-his evangelist "Billy Sol Hargis"-you'd have to remember some of the history of the 1960s to get the jokes.

I think he learned the hard way that words can have consequences, even for a so called shock-jock. He got what he deserved, and to his credit, he owned up to it.
There was a shock jock in Cleveland named Gary Dee. I was at one of the Cleveland hospitals picking up medical records in a lawsuit I was working. On the way out, the elevator stopped and a man in a wheelchair was pushed in to the elevator by an orderly. I looked over and it was Gary Dee. He was frail and weak. I asked him if he was Gary Dee and he looked up at me and said yes. He had said some things on the radio that had gotten him fired and he looked at me apprehensively. I said I could see he wasn't well and then said "May God Bless you and I will pray for you." His eyes filled with tears and he took my hand and said "Thank you." We then smiled at each other and the door opened and I left. He died not longer after that. Being a shock jock may have just been his schtick. I'm glad I ran into him.

He could take it as well as dish it out, his coworkers could pour it on
him pretty strong at times.
I remember when Saddam was caught in Iraq and after seeing the
picture of him Imus said, " what has Fred done now", speaking of
his brother Fred Imus.
He also had good taste in music as one of my all time favorites was
also Imus' choice, the multitalented Delbert McClinton.
