Don't bid on that gun.

I think we should all ask the seller if the barrel is bulged :D
I'll go first.

I sent the seller a message via Gun Broker. Asked him straight up, "Does this revolver have a bulge near the end of the barrel." I also thanked him for his time.

We'll see what happens, I guess.

OK, I'm gonna hafta get Brandon to come visit and check all mine...because I can't see the 'bulge' in those pics and they appear to be very good pics. I would certainly buy it based on the pictures.
Are you SURE it is bulged?
It looks like a job for a micrometer.

Gun Broker Warning Signs:

1. Only one or two photos.
2. All photos out of focus.
3. Seller refuses to answer questions.
4. Seller won't even give a partial serial number.
5. Gun "appears" unfired.
6. Gun "appears" to have original finish (when you can see that it doesn't!).
7. A description that reads, "
Smith & Wesson Model 28-2, 4 inch barrel Highway Patrolman," and that's all. I mean...c'mon.

There are other warning signs, but those will do for now. Most of the time, you can sort of get a feeling when something hinky is going on. P. T. Barnum is alive and well on GB.

There was a guy had a 28-2 listed on GB for what I thought was a decent price with no reserve. I asked him a few questions, no reply. The gun didn't sell. It ended up being relisted about 4 times, I think, with the same two photographs. It looked good, but only two photos...left and right side full view...no detail shots at all. I e-mailed the guy each time with the same questions...it became almost a game with me...but I never got one answer. It was relisted again last week, but it's gone now. Don't know if it sold or not, cause I gave up on even looking at it.

I think I laughed at most if not all of these comments. This thread is funny.

I looked at the gun. I see the blueing wore off at the end of the barrel only because dad's guns have the same marks. I assumed it was holster wear, all normal stuff and such.

And I agree with the man who buys guns with the 3-5 day return policy for inspection. I do the same with any used gun I buy.

Remember, my eyes are in their 60's but looking at picture #27, directly under the rear edge of the front sight base, I see a tapering bulge. I had a bulged Uzi barrel and it reminds me of that.

Sir, your 60 year old must be a lot better than my 65 Y/O eyes. I downloaded picture 27 and enlarged it, but I still don't see a bulge. As I've never owned a firearm with a bulged barrel I don't know the warning signs.

I actually am not sure that he knows it has a bulge. I did not mention it to him. Maybe my standards are too high? I don't think so, but I'm a pretty nice guy. So, here goes.

When I received the gun it was dirty, but it had been cleaned. It just hadn't been cleaned very well. So, if he never cleaned it that well it's possible he never saw it. But I cleaned the inside of the barrel pretty good, so if you look down it with enough light you can clearly see the ring. The bulge is difficult to see, even in person.

I did shoot this gun and it shot just fine. I didn't mention the bulge to him because I was scared he would try to say I did it. I'm confident I did not, however, as I noticed the crud built up in the ring before shooting it. I just didn't realize what it was.

A friend of mine and I were already getting ready to go to the range and I got the call from the gun shop saying my transfer was ready for pick up. So, we went and got it then headed back to my place to take a closer look at it. I wasn't happy with a few things and noticed it was a bit dirty so cleaned it up a bit and noticed the crud built up in the barrel but didn't clean it all the way.

I called the seller to discuss the things I was unhappy with and the possibility of returning it. I also told him I was going to the range and was thinking about shooting the gun. He said to go ahead and see how i like it and get back to him. So, we did. I liked the gun. I was leaning towards keeping it. Maybe a bulged barrel ain't as bad as it sounds and looks?

I cleaned it better the next day and realized it had the bulge. I thought about it long and hard and decided to just tell him I wanted to stick to my initial decision to return it. With all the legal mumbo jumbo in his ad and the way he talked I had a bad feeling about the whole deal.

What???

So, what was the purpose of creating this thread? You complain about this seller and the bad gun you got and then we find out you gave him good feedback at GB anyway and now, even more strange, decide to tell us you never bothered telling the guy the barrel was bulged. Well, no wonder he relisted it. Have you considered he's possibly not aware of it, especially if it's as slight as you've described it and the gun shoots well?

Look at all these other guys you have bugging this seller today and it turns out you never told him why you returned it. Incredible.

Notice the last paragraph. How nice!

Maybe explains why the Seller has Good feedback...He has that he wont take returns in his Ad..and still honored it and took it back...

I agree wholeheartedly with DB...The Seller needs to know what the problem is so he can correct it and disclose it...Sounds to me..Like you got a dirty gun and the guy returned it thinking nothing was wrong ither than you were disatisfied...

I feel Like a Giant *&^% sending the guy these questions today...

To me this thread just took a huge downward spiral.
If you do not disclose to the guy your findings how do you expect him to make it right to the next guy? You expected honesty then didn't give any.

The only thing i can take out of this is that the seller that has sold a lot of guns could inspect his guns much better before auction. Plus he is taking a huge risk to let someone shoot his guns during a return period.

I'm sorry but he's had the gun 15 years and didn't realize there's a bulge in the barrel. I'm not buying it. It didn't take me long to notice. Also, I did not ask anyone to ask him anything. Always assume there are two sides to the story because there always are.

My .02..... Once you pulled the trigger ( with or w/o permission of seller) it's YOUR gun. Prove it was damaged BEFORE you put GOD knows what ammo, reloads, etc down the pipe...... Not saying you damaged it, just saying prove it. You should be happy he took the return.....

Previously damaged or not, I have to give credit to a seller who states the buyer is the owner and then allows you to shoot it and graciously allows you to return it. Next time do the seller and potential buyers a favor and give a heads up on damage like you experienced with this revolver.

I bet that ol' boy is really scratching his head over all the questions about a bulge that is next to impossible to see.

This thread reinforces my conviction that even if I still had money to buy guns (I don't) I would never buy one I couldn't handle and examine first, while talking to the seller face to face.

Guess I'm a suspicious, old-fashioned guy, but I can't imagine buying a gun online. Especially from a guy with a list of disclaimers like that.

Someone please point out the bulge !
