I'm not TexasStar but I can tell you why I won't eat any brains of any critter.

Prion diseases. Squirrel brains are known to cause CJD in humans. Same reason I won't touch CWD deer or elk, or scrapie infected sheep or BSE infected cattle.

In humans Kuru is a known prion disease caused by eating human brains.

So I'm with Texas on no brains and I know too muchbiology to eat organ meats (hearts excepted) Sorry, I will not eat filters and other parts designed to remove pathogens and toxins!

Other than batter-fried chicken livers and gizzards, I don't eat organ meats either...nor brains, tongues, feet, or tails (unless they are ground up in my bologna or hot dogs, and then I don't know it.)

Not much of a innards fan myself except for anything made with fresh blood. Seared black pudding with onions for breakfast,a boudin noir plate and even a bowl of Dinuguan gets me excited.

Huge fan! Hearts, livers, intestine ...mmmm...caviar ....mmmm...Havnt tried brains but want to. In Russia we had "Kishka" which is intestine ...none of you ever heard the Polish song about "Kishka"?

Tongues im ok with but depending on how its prepared.

I agree with not eating brains because of the threat of piron disease, but you have gone to meddling when you suggest not eating liver and fish eggs!

I've had pretty much all sorts of crazy foods, including some very vile organ meats - however, I've made a point of avoiding brains and neurological matter for the reasons BaaBaa listed. It's apparently a higher risk than originally thought, or at least that was what my doctor told me after I spent some time in Asia and the topic of food came up.

Anybody else thought this was a zombie thread? :D around here some eat bull b---s  call them rocky mountain oysters :p pass me by. One thought, what if you were starving? All bets are off then, what wouldn't you eat? Leningrad is a good example.

who stole the Kishka?

So if you kill a whitetail that has chronic wasting disease, are you safe if you don't eat the brains or spine?

Why would anyone steal Kishka?

When I went through survival school in the Army (Ft. "Wegotcha" AZ). The mantra was "If it moves, it's protein". I can still picture in my mind 20 grown men(at least we thought we were grown) picking up rocks looking for breakfast.:D I don't pick up rocks any more.

The Chinese have a saying, "If it's back faces Heaven, it's edible."

Of course, there are a lot of things we enjoy that seem disgusting when you think about them for a minute. Like eggs, for example...I still wonder who first thought, "I'm going to eat that white thing that just came out of that bird's butt."

There is no proven case of Chronic Wasting Disease in deer or elk being passed to humans. Four people who had CJD one year had eaten venison, but that is far from proof as the disease can evolve spontaneously, be hereditary, or caused by other risk factors. Still, why be the first to prove it? Don't expose yourself to brain or spinal tissue and theoretically you should be OK. And remember if your knife or saw picks up some prions from infected tissue, the prions are NOT killed by normal sterilization procedures....still wanna saw that skull plate off?

...or that old chestnut, the first guy to have opened an oyster, looked at it in all it's slippery glory and proceeded to eat it.

I pride myself in eating just about anything or at least trying it once.

Nope no inards for me. Organs that filter out all the impurities??:p:p

As a kid we used to have cow tongue pretty regular. Not bad Kinda like corned beef.

Mrs Rule likes liver. it smells OK but it's a "texture thing with me.

Give me oysters, frogs, snails I'll eat em all.
