I purchased/ordered a Smith and Wesson Sigma .40 the other day. I was torn between that and the Ruger P95, and the new SD40 and decided the Sigma was way more comfortable in my hand, and the SD doesn't come in stainless, yet. The ergonomics on the Sigma are awesome! I love it. The gun has nothing but positive reviews minus it's notable 10+ pound trigger pull that everyone bitches about. The owner of the store had one that was used and the trigger pull wasn't bad at all. I thought they were having one of those epic S&W rebates, but no i read the dates wrong. Either way it should be at my local FFL by the end of the week. It was $329.oo before tax. Hopefully my experience will be good. This is my 2nd pistol purchase, first being a Bersa Thunder .380. While I love my single action or true da/sa...I've read if you get good with a Sigma, then you'll be a better shot with other pistols. Truth of the matter is I can't hit the broad side of a barn with the Bersa lol. I look forward to shooting it this Saturday, and I'll update my thread. May consider an eventual trigger fix like the one in the sticky. Just hope it's a gun that I can trust my life too.
PS- Glocks are hideous!

I bought a P95 when they first came out. I tried to like it but never did. I like Ruger products but this one rattled like a box of nails, didn't like steel cased ammo at all and was never 100% reliable. It was also far too wide at the decocker and just too bulky in general. Sold it off and ended up with the Sigma.
The Sigma ergos are much better, has been 100% reliable, and I actually really like the trigger for a defensive HD pistol.
I think you made a good choice.

Thanks. Yes, that was the deciding factor- the P95 had the bulkiest grip I've ever seen on a 9mm. There's no way my 140lb frame could conceal that tank!

I've had my 9VE almost 3 years and my wife has had her 9VE almost 2 years. Both EDC and very reliable range guns. I have sent mine back to LSG for a trigger job and striker replacement. Wifes has not been back to S&W but I did do a trigger job on it. I would not mess with anything but the pigtail spring and polish everything that contacts anything in the sear assembly. Pay a lot of attension to the cutout where the pin rides. It is the biggest gritty feel culprit. Roll up some 600 grit and work it up and down. When all the grooves are gone go to 800 then 1000 to clean it up and your pull should still be long but smooth. Good luck, you will love or hate it, there seems to be no in between. I carried wheelguns for about 30 years so the trigger is pretty good to me. It's a defense weapon and a very good one at that.

i hope i'm in the "love it" camp. i've seen some vids- some are good rapid fire with it, others are not lol

Hey scandix the ds series are stainless they just have a black melonite coated slide to reduce glare you could for a few bucks send it back to S&W and have them bead blast it Just an FYI, I had the custom shop do it to my sd9

Scan, You'll be fine with the Sigma. Just shoot it as much as possible. I'm very happy with my SW9VE. 1300 rounds through it.

I'm going to notify them at the Ruger forum, immediately! LOL! (j/k)

When we went shopping for a 9, my daughter couldn't even reach the controls on the P95!

The mighty sigma on the other hand, has superb ergos!;)

Needless to say, my pride and joy is a crack shot with her sigma!

Sigma & Single Six Rocks!:)
