My first is a M27-2 with a 5"barrel. I bought is used, the bluing was (and is) terribly worn, but it is still a great shooter
Now the chat would be "Shoes and Boots and Bags" and if you came up with the wrong answer- you'd get cold Supper - if any at all.In 1971, while living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I was 22 and owned 3 long guns...30-06, 12 gauge, and a 22 Hornet. Decided I needed a .22 and my first handgun. Went to the local Coast-to-Coast hardware store in L'Anse and saw a new Model 17-3 that satisfied both "needs." As I was making $3.08 an hour and just married, I asked about time payments if I put half down. He said OK and "Take it and pay me when you get it." Those were different times! Working in the woods, it became my most used and carried (again, different times) firearm.
Side note: Soon after getting married, the new wife asked "Why do you need all those guns(3)?" I said "Same reason you need all those pots and pans...different tools for different jobs." Subject never came up again and 43 years later I still had the same wife and Model 17.
My first was a model 15. I bought it from another guy who had been a cop for a short period of time and found out it was not for him. It probably had a few boxes of ammo through it. I still love shooting it. It was my first duty weapon. While in the academy, the ammo was so crappy that those who had stainless revolvers had to clean their weapon after every round or two. The blued steel model 15 never hinted at a malfunctioned even once.My first was a 4" Model 28-2 Highway Patrol. Best I've ever owned. Absolutely loved it
And 57 years later you still have that BHP.In 1963 I bought a used 1950 44 Special Target model that someone traded for a 44 magnum. Paid $49. Traded it for a Ruger Super BLackhawk in the wood box in 1964. Traded the SBH that year for a 3.5inch Model 27 which was traded in 1968 when I switched to a BHP which I carried over 40 years. Wish I would have kept them all but could not afford to.
I carried a 1086 daily for a long time, at least until they came out with the M&P in 10mm. Still have it. Learned a lesson from my '69 SS396 Chevelle: never sell a good gun or car!A 1086 that I sold in favor of a 1006
