According to a website regarding the history of Alameda NAS, the B-25 bombers were loaded onto the Hornet at pier 3. The Hornet, with the light cruiser Nashville and escorts departed Alameda on April 2, 1942 at 1000 hours (10:00 a.m.) and sailed out of San Francisco Bay in a fog that reduced visibility to 1,000 yards.
