door handle removal?

If I can remove this handle I can get it into my closet. If it's to difficult I will have to remove part of the door frame.

Hey buddy.

Removing the handle may not be as easy as you think. You may have to open the safe and then remove the cover on the back of the door. Then you would need to unbolt the entire bolt works to remove the handle.

I would suggest removing the entire door. Not sure on this model but it may lift off. And you may need help.

Some safe doors lift off and some are secured by Allen set screws which are an adjustment to raise and lower the door to fit.

Have a buddy hold the door steady, put a floor jack under the door with a block of wood and see if you can move the door upwards. If it does move upwards and not the entire safe then you should be good to go.

Move the safe and reinstall the door.

I've been thinking about getting a new jack. Aluminum low profile for my car. I can't get my big jack under it where I want anyhow.

I do not find a pic in your post. But if the handle is the three spoke and hub type, the spokes will,screw out of the hub.

I got to looking and there's a black cover in the middle of the handle. I carefully pried it off and there was an allen screw holding it on. I found about a half of an inch more clearance. To bad it's not enough to clear the door. 1/8" more and it would be tight. May as well be a mile.


So I opened the inside. The shaft is held in with a collar and the collar is tightened with an allen. Ok Easy. The toughest part was the little crimp washer that fits on the end of the shaft over the collar. I managed to remove it fairly easy.


Now that I know what to do I gotta clean the closet and empty the safe out. Then I have to put some shoes on that have traction. I tried to push it with my boat shoes on but just spun out on the tiles.

For future reference, remember the old bit about a lever and a fulcrum!!

I'd take the frame of the closet door, put safe in, reinstall with a metal frame and metal door, install a cypher lock and feel really secure!
