Am I correct that slop or slack (over-travel??) of Ruger SP101's trigger is noticeably greater than for "J" frame S&W revolvers? I have been informed that trigger over-travel reduces a shooter's potential accuracy from an otherwise accurate rifle. Does such over-travel reduce a double action revolver shooter's potential accuracy also - although rifle and revolver trigger actions are different?

From "at rest" hammer down to "just fired" trigger blade near rear of trigger guard, what are distances traveled by S&W Model 60 and Ruger SP101 trigger blades?

Over travel is the distance the trigger can travel rearward after the actual break (when the hammer drops). I think some over travel on a combat revolver is a good thing as it helps ensure the trigger reset for the next operation. S&W used to produce target revolvers equipped with over travel stops. Even then there had to be a slight amount of over travel. It was just limited more by the stop.

As for the accuracy potential of a J-frame revolver versus a SP101: I'd pick the one that shot best for me. There are so many variables that come to play when it comes to shooting small groups with any weapon, chief of which is the human operating it.
