Downside to pocket holster...

I pocket carry but it is very rare that my pocket gun is my only gun. But when it is, I can easy get too it even with my belt on.

Same issue here, but that is what gun #2 and #3 that are NOT in my pocket are for.

If I feel the need to defend myself while behind the wheel, my car is a much more formitable weapon than any handgun. In other words, I'm not gonna shoot ya when I could drive over ya.
Since I'm not allowed any reasonable means to defend myself while here in Illinois, I'm also prepared to run over or drag anyone I need to. I make sure I have room to maneuver. Try to block my path, force your way in or produce a weapon and you're going for the [last] ride of your life.

I pocket carry all of the time in Ohio, in one of my pocket holsters. I just take holster and all and put them in the unlocked glove box.

I have done the same now and then BUT..... it can be dangerous too! If you don't recall, I am about 99.9% sure that in the famous FBI Miami Shootout, the agents had done the same and when they crashed and the gun fight started, both agents could not find their guns as they had flown all over the car! I don't recall if they used backups or what, but I think both were killed during the shootout and a big probabliltiy was because they lacked the fast early fighting ability because their weapons were carried in that method.

Because of this incident I took to always having a gun holstered on me in the event I had to bail out of the car. I would still have something to fight with. Having said that, I worked surveillance for many years and would have a gun under my leg as well while seated in a vehicle. I realize this is not an option for everyone but worked well for me.

:eek:That's where my belly goes!!!

I just realized the same thing while driving home tonite. :) I really liked that holster, but that wasn't me sitting in that seat... maybe 10 years ago... but not today. I've come to the conclusion, I need to have a shoulder holster of some kind with maybe a smaller caliber tucked under the armpit.. any ideas? If anyone hits my DS door, it's already pointed in the right direction.. :)

In warm weather local driving, it comes out of my pocket in the Mika holster and is stuffed upright in the seat crack. For longer road trips it goes into a Lobo pancake cross-draw.
In cold weather driving, it and the Mika are in the inside breast pocket of my coat.
Like many, if I'm driving/sitting and it's in my pants pocket, it's too hard to access quickly.

I have been experimenting with the snap on second holster idea and also sticking the pocket holstered 642 into my waistband while seated in car.

I like ankle holsters for when Im driving in amy other situation they are a little slow (for me anyway) to draw from. When I know I'm gonna spend a lot of time in a car (i.e. road trip, driving at night through town, etc), I carry My s&w model 60 on my ankle, in addition to my M&P on my belt holster, strong side.

When I don't want to or can't carry 2 guns, I carry my M&P holstered on my seat, by my seatbelt buckle. I am a lefty so that allows me to "draw" from a cross-position. A little slower than option one and if I need to get out of the car Im screwed or have to stick it in my waistband without a holster, a big no-go for many reasons. I need to work this bug out yet.

....my 2 cents

Aha! That's what I do with my 642 or 60 but my shoulder holster is an upside down carry model with absolutely no identfying marks. Very rarely do I use a shoulder holster but it's perfect whilst in a vehicle. Caveat: Do remember to wear a jacket or shell...LEO's can get interested in you if they spot a shoulder holster in certain locales...like mine.

Be safe.

I thought everyone carried an Airweight under their left arm in a Null SKR... :)

Different situations demand different solutions. For serious seat time, I have a Haugen crossdraw or the Ken Null SKR. In the truck, the 642 is usually in the center console.

Good thoughts here. I usually carry my 442 in my right front pocket, and then tuck it under my left leg in the car, but the thought of losing it in a crash bothers me. I need to reconsider.......
