I often see the DPMS, Panther Arms, .308 basic AR flat top 16"
carbine on sale for $649. Anybody have one? Are they any good?
$649 is about bottom dollar these days for a new .308 semi auto.
I don't need a .308 semi auto but I have sort of wanted one for
a long time but I'm not going to pay $1500-$3,000 or more for
a .308 when .223 ARs are way cheaper. So I'm wondering if the
Oracle is worth considering. Surely someone has some feedback
to share. Thanks for any advice.

DPMS

They are accurate, function well, and are not that heavy. Nice entry level 308 that will do just about anything you may need. If you want more, look at the SASS, scoped it works very well to 1000 yards, I have not shot it further. I am sure that a better shooter could take it much farther. I have used and sold DPMS for 29 years and have not had anyone you ever had a problem. Clean it, feed it reasonable ammo and it will do most any thing you need to get done, from hunting to target. Be Safe,

A friend picked up a used one for $400 OTD about 6 weeks ago. Currently has a 11 or 12 pound rough trigger. I put a $149 Trigger on mine and it has a 3 pound trigger (that is about as low as an AR style can safely go) there are different style of trigger that run $208 to 400 and go as low as 24 ounces, they are suppose to be safe, but you pay your money and you take your chances!

I have several bolt guns in the 19 ounce pull on the trigger and one 12 ounce from the factory, but that is a bolt gun and not quite apples to apples!

I have one and they are, in my humble opinion, more than worth the money! Mine will shoot MOA groups all day long at 100 yards with my hand loads. My favorite hunting bullet with this platform is a Sierra 165 gr. BTHP Game King or the Nosler 165 gr. ballistic tip.

A Vortex 4 x 16 scope was selected and I have taken deer at ranges over 200 yards and coyotes at various ranges. I believe that they are a bargain and overlooked by many.

Lol, perhaps I should explain. I don't doubt that they can shoot well, it's all the muzzle blast from the short tube that would wear me down.

Yeah it's pretty brutal, especially mine because of the M4-72 muzzle brake...but it sure does kill recoil.

I too lucked into a $375 Oracle 5 years ago.
I used it as a base gun to build a (Semi) precision rifle. Midway has 20" Armalite barrels for $110, a Giselle(sp?) trigger, and a Magpul stock from GPC. It shoots 3/4" groups at 100yds with my reloads. I've gotten to like it more than my Norincos.
