I turned 50 in Feburary, so I guess I am considered an old guy by some standards. I normally drop off my youngest daughter at school before going to work.

She is a freshman in high school and I have noticed that the young ladies in high school dress a bit more risque than they did when I went to high school. A lot shorter skirts, more revealing tops, pajama bottoms sand so on. I don't go to Wal-mart but I know they sell kid size thong underwear.

My daughter and my niece think I am to conservative when I make my wife look at the clothes before they buy them, sometimes I supervise the clothing purchase. My daughter and my niece went to a store clled Hot Topics and bought swim suits for a pool party last summer. I knew something was wrong when they didn't wear them in our pool so I had my wife look at them and skimpy doesn't adequately describe them. So they went back for a more conservative suit.

I used to have to remind some of the ladies I taught school with, and also attended HS with, of some of the things they wore, or didn't wear, back in 1966. They would complain about what the girls were wearing, and I would say, "I remember you in 1966. Would you like me to bring my HS Album tomorrow?"

They didn't much like it.

I agree about the swim suits. They are much more revealing today than they were back then.

You are NOT too conservative. Our nation's parenting skills are almost non existent nowadays. I spent a 40 year career in public education and am appalled by the clothing worn by our young women. Many high school girls dress like whores. Maybe the moms do also - who knows, but it is inexcusable. If I sent a girl home to find more appropriate attire, it was almost a declaration of war! Recently my daughter (age 40) was complaining about not being able to find "normal' underpants for her twin 3 year old daughters at the local stores. It seems that the selections are all for a skimpy toddler version of the hip hugger, low-rider, or whatever they are called type of underwear! Gimmee a break! She actually had to go online to find a place to buy normal underwear for my granddaughters!! My point being that the general skimpy direction of female dress is headed for even lower moral reaches.

Go to a high school football game. I'm shocked at what a lot of girls wear. They look like wannabe porn queens. Of course, sometimes their mama's there in low riding jeans, thong, and has a "tramp stamp".

My main problem is with skimpy attire that is worn in inappropriate venues or in conjunction with bodies rendered gross by today's dietary and exercise habits. Tattoos and piercings are just a silly idea - but if you want to date a gal with a pierced lip and a tattoo of a dagger on her chest, have at it.

Neck and facial tattoos get on my nerves, I see a lot of tattooed women on a daily basis, but then I work in a womens prison. Some of my officers have them too, along with piercings every where. Neck, nose lips, tongue, ears, cheeks, and probably places I can't see.

A few years ago one of my female officers got into a wrestiling match with an inmate and her pants came down, they were low to begin with and she decided to go commando that day and we all got a show.

That's funny and sad at the same time. I would think if my job description had the real possibility of wrestling with someone who would do you harm, I would not want to give them an advantage like loose clothes and God forbid, piercings.

The Redlevel's point, it certainly does go in cycles. When I was in school, skirts were rare and shirts were generally not low cut. These days girls in middle school are wearing these low cut shirts all the time. My daughter is going to middle school next year and so far she has shown no proclivity toward dressing like that, except that since she is so tall, with really long legs, any shorts she wears look like short shorts. I think in her case it is because my wife doesn't dress that way.

I'm just glad the gals didn't dress like that back when I was in high school. I had enough distractions as it was .

I guess I'm an old f@rt. I think piercing and tattoos on a woman are abhorrent. Each to his own I guess.

BTW Erich- I'm a Texan and I like 85 mph! I just don't know why they won't let us drive faster than that on the four-lane .

Well, I can't say that I don't enjoy the view when an attractive girl shows a little skin, and summer here is a lot of visual fun when the girls break out their shorts and even go to the grocer in a bikini and cover-up. Or in tennis outfits.

But anything can be done to excess, and one needs to consider the venue.

I am repelled by tattoos. I believe they should appear only on sailors and ugly women in circus sideshows.

BTW, I have a friend who was a longtime college teacher before being elevated to a dean's position. He was convinced that some of those miniskirted girls deliberately let him see a great deal as he stood before his classes. It seemed to be a game to see if they could embarrass him or maybe get them easier grading standards in return for the show. He tried not to visibly react, and said that this was one of the perks of being a male teacher.

I blame MTV and rock music and emerging ethnic influences for some of the excess, and it is certain that the nation as a whole has diminished moral standards. There is too often just a lack of basic class.

On the other hand, being a stringent prude often causes a daughter to rebel and see what she can get away with. I hope that most parents can reach a reasonable compromise, where the girl's atttire fits in with current fashion without being excessive. My daughter is very attractive and I was somewhat concerned with how we would handle the issue of what she wore. My ex-wife's family were very conservative, and my teen kid got some lectures for outfits that I found quite acceptable. Thankfully, she never asked for a a tattoo!

This board has many extremely conservative members. Anything very revealing is going to upset them. I hope that in most cases, clothing issues won't drive a wedge between parents and teens to the extent that their overall relationship is damaged. That may take a little compromising on both sides.

That said, I think fashion designers need to let up on pushing clothes for very young girls that would be daring on teens. Britney Spears inspired a lot of pre-teens to mimic her wardrobe, and things have accelerated from there. I hope we don't see 10 -year-olds wearing lipstick and makeup soon. It really wouldn't surprise me

AS a rule tattoos on women bother me and I was upset when I heard that mmmMY granddaughter had one .No one told me what it was she showed it to me and I almost teared up , it is on her ankle and it is of her horse that had to be put down when she was @13 she waited untill her 18 birthday to get the tatoo .Now her horse will always be with her .She has had other horses but never bonded with them as with the one that passed .The tat. is in good taste and well done by an artist that copied the horse from a picture.

That's funny, when I was younger I always thought I'd grow up to be one of those guys, guess I've mellowed with age. Who knows though, I'm still only 48.

Of course it's nothing new, but that does not mean parents have to let their school kids run wild and dress like cheap whores and hoodlums.

The irony is that some parents encourage inappropriate behavior and dress, jumping on the school that tells their kid to cover up their butt crack, and then the parents wonder why they are having to post bail for their kids.
A near neighbor--not really bad people, just wanted their 2 kids to have "complete freedom"--now visit their son in prison and support their daughter's two ******* kids.

I graduated HS in '65. Hems were at or just above the knee. Necklines were at the neck. This was a public high school. girls did not wear anything other than dresses, skirts and blouses. boys wore slacks, collared shirts that required to be tucked in and leather shoes. Also a clean shave if you needed to shave.

I was and still am all for the micro mini skirt and the braless look. The difference is that the girls in the 60's had the bodies to go with the look. I live where I have girls from a grade school middle school and a high school walk past my house, and most of them need to go look in a mirror. When the belly hangs over the belt its time to cover it up. And not with a skin tight top.

You are not too conservative, little kids do dress like whores. But take a look at the mom's, they are just as bad, if not worse. These women dress like whores and gladly shop for the sluttiest outfits for their kids.

All these women approaching middle age are dying to be "M I L F's".

Why are kids not doing well in school? Because the parents don't give a damn. The divorced single mom is too busy developing her social life. No one goes over homework, no one checks that they are doing what they are supposed to do. The Fed Government can toss trillions at the problem, but with non existant parents, it is throwing money away.

My ex wife had my kid's solo since they were 5 and 6. In HS i tried to get custody of them because they were absent for 56 days of school and were being left back. I didn't go in with a lawyer to family court and neither did she. I assumed it was a no brainer that I would get them, just on the merits of the case. I was a retired Police Officer, so obviously I wasn't a total scvmbag. The judge ruled against me. Originally child services was supposed to investigate and report to the judge. They never did and he accepted that.

In their junior and senior year she allowed me to have them, as long as I continued to pay their child support. Apparently she moved with a guy to Texas and wanted to dump them. They were bright kids, but years of half assing school didnt help them. They both eventually graduated HSa year late, not with flying colors, but at least they made it. I will stop here, before I take up the site's bandwith.

There needs to be a balance and a respect for both sides. A young woman can look very "Hot" and still not show too much, problem is that when you look at what their mothers wear you see where it comes from. Beauty is in the soul and can last a life time. Physical looks change, in a year, two, five, ten or twenty. It's sad that so many children see that what is important is being Beautiful. I think partly because the only real industry we have in the US today is entertainment. Everything else has mostly been shipped off shore. You cann't blame the kids, they mimick what they see. I like to think that I'm lucky with two boys, but it's just as bad. I worry about how they will build their opinions, likes and dislikes as they grow through teen-hood.

Again, I think there is a balance between both sides. There needs to be rules, edges that are understood by both. You cross the line there are natural consequences to their actions. Perhaps it’s we do not pay for closes we do not like and if you choose to buy that style you get less allowance, more chores, something negative.

It's equally hard to find the balance between respect and freedom, but it's critical.

A lot of Latina women do have a weight problem, but some of those babes on Ipanema Beach ain't bad. About half of the Victoria's Secret Angels are Brazilian. (Many of the rest are Czech, although there are a few Americans, a Brit, a South African, a Dutchie, and an Aussie.) Ever eyeballed Ana Beatriz Barros or Alessandra Ambrosio? You can find many admiring videos of both on YouTube. Better not link them here, I guess.

Now, we can sit back while the guys who like women built like those whales decry the skinny models. The supermodels ARE often too thin, and that wonderful example of them, Petra Nemcova, has come out strongly against that, saying that she had a friend or two die of malnutrition!

I think the problem is that too many fashion designers are gay, and are heartless about the girls' health. My idea of a good looking babe is Aussie actress Yvonne Strahovski, seen as Sarah Parker on, Chuck. (She has to fake a US accent.) She's the best thing about that show and an ideal example of feminine architecture. Sexy and healthy. She looks good in everything. Overall, Playmates look healthier than supermodels, but some recent ones have had tattoos. It really grossed me out when Holly Madison got a couple of those. Ana Beatriz Barros has a tramp stamp on her lower back, too. Pity: that damaged some pristine female real estate. She still smolders. Does things with her eyes that ought to be illegal in public. Unless she's looking at me that way...

Have any of you guys ever been to Rio de Janeiro during Carnival? How many of the ladies are hot and how many are ...otherwise?

I tell my daughter all the time, "I know what fourteen year old boys are thinking. I used to be one." That's usually just after I've told her what she's wearing is not quite appropriate. She usually appeals to Mom, who usually sides with Dad.

I went shopping for jeans with her several months ago. We went to four stores before we found some that covered most of the way to her waist. Fortunately, she's worn uniforms to school all her life, so there's not as much peer pressure to dress like some of the kids I see other places.

I was working Padre Island National Sea Shore one time during Spring Break. I got a complaint from a lady visitor about another visitor who was wearing a Semi Thong Bikini.
The swim suiter was about 5'2" and weighed in the neighborhood of 300 pounds. I told the complaintant that there was nothing I could do about the lady as she was not violating any Federal or State Laws.

I then told her that if there was a law that effected what the woman was wearing the Criminal Case would be a Death Penality Case. The Complainant laughed and was satisfied with that observation and she went on her way.

Yeah, prime physical specimen that I am, I feel qualified to judge who may or may not dress a certain manner.
And the "Ethnic influence" corrupting kids I remember was 25 years ago from a white Italian Catholic pop star named Madonna. (Man, is there nothing some folks won't blame on race?)
The clothing stores wouldn't offer it if the public didn't buy it. Even though I am not enamored with today's styles, they're not aimed at me, any more than the bell bottoms, Hurache sandals and headbands I wore were aimed at my parents.
And I'm sure my parents and their buddies sat around talking about how my generation was going to ruin America.
Now my generation is pushing 65 and following in my parents footsteps.
