So my son is returning the ice chest he borrowed and said there are some adult beverages left and did I want them. Sure, I says.
Then he said they had a freshness date on them and would need to be, drinked? drank? drunk? drinkin?
We finally settled on consumed.
So what would be proper?
And we are from East Texas and apparently did not pay attention in school.:o

I defer to Otis.

That's Deputy Campbell here in Carolina!

Don't drink anymore and it was mostly because I didn't know when to quit drink or drank and ended up drunk at which point I usually got into some sort of trouble. Luckily no legal problems!

"Drink, Drank, Drunk" = "Veni, Vidi, Vici"

"Drink by" dates are valid... at least for GOOD beer. It should also be poured into a glass vessel, preferably a heavy mug or stein, to release all of the esters (fruity flavors) contained in the brew, to be fully appreciated. Best served around 45`-50`F. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference with mass produced swill that HAS to be served as cold as possible (and salted to add SOME kind of flavor, at least for me) to be even close to palatable.

Being of heavily Germanic descent, I recollect my first beer at around 5 yrs. old, and I took an instant like to the stuff, so I grew up with it at home. Yeah, I've been accused of being falling down, blind drunk a time or two :D, but have for many years, now, drank mostly for taste, not effect.

The effect after a couple too many tasty beers is just a pleasant resultant bonus.

THAT'S GOTTA BE A FIRST.

Your kid returning something, WITH beer left? What's next? Gassing up the car before returning it. As far as the grammar, dr dr CONSUMED. ;)

Freshness date is a gimmick

I've wondered that.

I got two beers in the fridge, left from when my brother was here last.

Talking to him on the phone a couple weeks back, I mentioned them. "The date on the bottom of the can is 2010. Y'reckon they're still good?"

He says, "I never heard of beer going bad".

'Course, since he drinks it, it probably don't stay around long enough at his house to go bad.

Of course it can go bad but not that easily. If you drink try one, worst case toss them.

Beer doesn’t expire like other stuff in your fridge does. Instead, beer quality typically declines over time, affecting flavor and body. Worst case is it may give your stomach a cleansing! And you may loose a few pounds. [emoji2] . May! Typically they don't.

Some beer, including barleywines, lambics, and imperial stouts, actually taste better as they age, like a fine wine. Usually the darker or stronger the beer is, the better it ages. If your beer is Corona or Bud or something similar chances are that after 7 years the taste will be off.

I brew my own beer and have had it sit as long as 2 years and they actually got better. However, my brewing technique is old school and it takes longer for my beer to mature where as the mass produced beer is freshest 3 - 6 months after bottling. Some companies even make beer with a warning to store in a cool dark place and wait 5 - 7 years!
