Nephew wants a drone for Christmas, would be his first. He’s in his mid 20s, looking for suggestions for a beginner.

Don't know about them, but COSTCO has one on display that folds into a size that fits on your hand, and has a 4K camera. About $400.

A friend of mine was into drones and he's a guy in his 60's that has had several and he is also someone that researches everything before investing in it. His last drone cost $650.00. He bought that last year and has since sold it and used the cash to pay for part of a mod66 2.5".
The drones take some study and practice to learn them and keep them out of the trees and from crashing into a neighbor or his car or house. If I wanted info on one for myself I'd head for a hobby store or get on a "drone forum" and ask about newbe purchases.

What good use is there for a drone with a camera? Snooping on the neighbors?

Realtors are heavy into using drones. Civilians for the same reason - to survey their property. Obviously LE's. I'm sure there's a long list of legit uses for cameras drones. Perhaps the pilot will recognize the tree it's in.

We have that Costco drone, the DJI Mini 2. It's very reliable, easy to fly, takes outstanding video. I recommend it.

A few ago, seems like everything is a few ago.
I was at the Cumbres Toltec Station at Antonio, CO.
A dude launched a Drone and flew it pretty much over me.
Very noisy!
And it’s against the law to shoot at them.
Especially with that many witnesses!

A friend of mine who sells large tanks and similar equipment uses one to look at the tops of tall tanks instead of climbing up them. I wouldn't mind having one to look at my second story roof.

Once ours is about 150-200’ up, you can’t hear it. 400’ is generally the max. allowed altitude AGL.

I found one helpful while doing genealogy research. A guy on Prince Edward Island did this one for me. I've been thinking about getting one for this purpose.

I was fortunate to grow up in the '50s, where we flew planes on strings, and my Dad's buddies had rather large remote controls. 
See pic below of that era.
They were nicknamed "Radio" and some wore Badges as well.
One had a Woody filled with radios etc etc and one had a Battleship grey '40s coupe.... my favorite.

A lot of people buy them just to snoop on other people and their business. It would not be quite so bad if you were allowed to shoot a drone if it was bugging you, but since it is against the law to do so the people on the ground have no recourse to put a stop to being watched or spied upon. How would you like it if you were outside shooting, working, taking a nap in your lawn chair, or taking a leak out behind the shed and one of those d**ned things shows up and hovers around watching you?

One drone downing idea is to use your fishing bow and reel with flu flu arrows.
Out of cast net range.
Decades ago a bunch of marine electronics techs, having some beer after work, were brainstorming a way to capture parrots in the trees near the airport... FLL.
Being the only handloading gun guy, I suggested two small cannon balls attached together by a light weight wire net.
A variation of what pirates, or privateers if sanctioned by the Queen, did with cannon balls and chains to de-mast a square rigger, but scale it down for a 12 gauge's 3.5" shells of course.
Pre-computer days but hacking and taking control might be a fun project these days.

Maybe a variation of this by having two model rockets separated a distance apart but each being attached to a very lightweight net suspended between them. Launch the rockets and drag the net into the drone's path and let it get entangled.
