Excellent post. You are definitely not a oldfella at all, you are a wise oldfella.

No girlfriend and I'm not married, I'm DEFINITELY not a crossdresser so I guess I'll have to go buy some pantyhose if I drop something down the drain.

THANK GOD, Now my wife will believe me about those Queen-Size pantyhose she found in the glove compartment of my truck! "I was just using them to get something out of the drain, honey". Right...

Cool trick, but make sure you use a wet/dry vac. Your wife wouldn't be happy if you ruined her Hoover with the water in the trap.

Plastics Im sure this would work fine but what about gold rings and what not? Are they too heavy to be sucked out, anyone want to test it out with their wedding ring?

Sure, I haven't used it in 4.5 years. Oh wait, I'd still have to go buy pantyhose, guess that'll have to wait.

I think those Shop Vacs have a strong-enough suction to give a hickey

Dad owned a sewer and drain cleaning business growing up. We recovered a few rings from drains until we were threatened with a law suit from failure to
find a ring that may or may not have been there. The homeowner thought we found it and stole it.
Pull the p-trap and try not to run any water from the instant it falls down the drain. Down the toilet, do not flush turn the water off immediatly or lift the lid and remove the plaastic hose running to the fill tube. Call a plumber to remove the toilet with out emptying the water out of it, then set it in the bathtub to drain through a strainer. Pour the water out and invert the toilet and shake it.

Would it work (and be easier) to 1) Shut the water off to the toilet; 2) Siphon or pump as much water as possible from the bowl; 3) Try this same vacuum cleaner trick at the toilet's drain opening?
