I had my model 36 cylinder out and dropped the yoke (I grabbed the cylinder and the yoke just fell off) on to a cement floor. When I put it back together I noticed it was hard to open. Could it have bent when it hit the ground?

Not bent, but more likely developed a burr where the edge or end hit the pavement.

Examine it under good lighting, and look for a deformed edge on the axle that goes into the frame. If you do find a burr, you can easily stone it off or use a strip of abrasive cloth backed with a flat stick of wood to polish it off. Make sure that the correct yoke retention screw back into the sideplate. The wrong screw can cause the yoke to be hard to open too.

I looked at the yoke and found no burrs. I put tape on the cylinder and numbered each chamber. It appears to be hard to open on two chambers, less so on the next (third) chamber and easy on the following two. I just never noticed this before I had it apart.

It is mainly the initial release I am finding difficult, it swings freely once released.

Look for a burred extractor rod end, or uneven grind marks on the center pin. Either condition can snag the cylinder locking bolt engaging the end of the extractor rod.

Loosen screw that holds yolk in and open and close,,, See if that makes a difference,
Peter.
I doubt it could have bent without dinging up the yolk. Something else.

I can't see how the piece would have enough mass to bend the crane tube being dropped from six feet or less. Drag on specific cylinder positions points to either the ejector ratchets or a bent ejector rod.

Mine 686 was doing the same thing, opening hard on two cylinders. It had a small burr on the end of the extractor rod. Some emry cloth took it off now it works fine.
