drugs and law firms

This calls to mind the Worm Ouroboros ...

there are many times that I look on those type of law firms as being some type of vulture or hyena....... producing nothing useful in life and only tearing down what others have built..........

in fairness.......... I'm taking a chemo combo that is in the 3rd stage trials now for my type of lung and hepatic (liver) cancer.........there is a huge list of ailments & harm that this wonderful medicine might cause they told me.......in great detail..... in writing & orally to my wife & myself.........

But until they hit on this combo there was no effective treatment for this cancer........ the 2 large masses in my left lung (the only lung I have) are now undetectable & the large mass in my liver has not grown or changed...........

No one is saying the drug companies are perfect........... but at least they (like my docs, nurses & the rest of the good folks taking care of me) are trying...........to my way of thinking...... there was only 1 who walked this earth that was perfect....... I cannot expect that my caretakers will be......... I just ask them to try.....as long as they show up sober, not drinking or using drugs, and not have a don't give a rap attitude & are trying to do right......... that is all I can ask of those I meet on my journey through life.

We all need 1) good docs 2)good nurses 3) good meds 4) help from the Good Lord thru prayer.............

the thing that bothers me most about all of these drugs is that most have or could have side effects that are worse then the original problems

Before Xarelto existed there was Praadaxa which is now off the market. I took Praadaxa for a year and I was miserable the whole time. So far no problems with Xarelto. Sometimes the cure is worse than the cause. Treatment has come a long way since my dad's day and I'm a grateful recipient of trial and error. I'll take what they've got.

Money is Involved

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. in the same 30 minute tv show they had a commercial for one of the wonder drugs and a law firm trying to get clients for possible lawsuit for the same drug. they were about 10 minutes apart

Just goes to show that large sums of money are involved. The drug companies are making a lot of money and lawyers are trying to take it way from them. Most lawyers are practicing legalize extortion. They file a law suite and the company will have to decide how much money it will cost them in legal fees to fight the suite. The lawyers will say they will drop the suit for an amount of money which the company will pay because it is less than they would have to spend to fight the suite. Extortion is illegal except when lawyers do it!

We have wonder drugs and drugs to wonder about. There is also no two people that will react exactly alike to drugs, food, drink. Before you blindly take some of today's drugs you must look at the side effects and ask yourself if it is worth it. Personally, I have always thought it is laboratories that cause cancer in rats.

Most lawyers, BigBoy99?

In fact most lawyers don't work in areas where they even go to court, let alone get involved in law suits.

I can understand disliking lawyers, but "most lawyers" is simply fantasy on your part.

Bob

We have several good brothers that are attorneys....most of those practicing their trade/craft are very reputable...and very quickly walk away from the cases that blur the lines between right/wrong on both sides of the aisle........

Attorneys are now like insurance companies...... everyone hates them.............and loves to tell bad jokes about them......... until you need them..............then you are very glad that you have rock solid examples of both in your corner............

To my knowledge, Pradaxa remains on the market. I use it without any side effects.

Regarding lawsuits, it only reinforces the notion that we are a nation of the people, by and for the lawyers.

No matter how safe a drug is, somebody is going to have an adverse reaction to it. The last truly evil drug I can think of was Thalidomide.

One thing to remember, when they conduct the trials they later have to list ALL side affects. That means that if 1 person in 500 develops a rash it must be listed on possible side effects. That's the reason for the long disclaimer lists.

Along the way to getting old I came down with a skin problem called Rosatia. They told me I had to take an anti biotic that made my skin burn whenever it was exposed to the sun. Having worked outside for a living all my life I decided I would not take the medicine he told me I must take every day for the rest of my life.

The next visit to him I told him he should have give me a drug that allowed me to work because my skin burned too bad to work outdoors. He said "god must hate you" and went on to tell me I must take those drugs. I have never taken them again and my skin no longer bothers me. However I do have another doctor.

I earned my hatred for lawyers the old fashioned way - from being one. From law school on, I was not favorably impressed, and the standards of writing, knowledge, and conduct are getting lower. I will note that Bob is right. Doing what I do now (government civil) I am exposed to lawyers who don't go to court often, have never done in a trial after years in the field, and are completely unexposed to the stuff I have done and seen in the criminal law arena.

The company that makes my daughers enzymes and vitamins for her cyctic fibrosis are giving them to us for free until she turns 2. They don't charge insurance, they don't charge us. They give them to us. Meds that cost approximately $200 a month for 2 years. We found out when she was 1 month, so 23 months times $200 is $4600 in free meds they are giving us.

Not all drug companies are bad.

What is the least amount killed before it's passed for a "safe" drug!?

I used to think all lawyers were bad......until I needed one. That opinion has changed!!! Just by luck I found a lawyer that I trust. He's holding my life in the palm of his hand so to speak. Also he loves S&W handguns to boot. When he makes an appointment to see me he makes mine the last of the day. When we are finished discussing my case then we talk guns. It usually last for 2-3 hours. It's funny how one person changed my opinion of a whole profession. We are never too old to change and to learn.
