Question: After cleaning, what is under tension?

Long term issues?

Dry firing acceptable?

You can dry fire with no problems. If it worries you, pull the charging handle back far enough that the bolt carrier hits the hammer, pull the trigger, and ease the carrier forward.

That way nothing is under tension.

You dry fired the living !@#$! out of your M16/4 no*? Dime drills? Beam hit? Wont hurt a damn thing, its part of the function check for the trigger group.

* I apologize if that sounded harsh, I made the assumption you were from the m16 generation, no disrespect intended for you old timers.

Cool, I just ordered a m1 from cmp, can't wait until I get it, perhaps you'll be schooling me on it in the future.

Pg 85 has the function check procedure. It's an easy process that just makes sure the hammer isn't falling when it's not supposed to.

Hope you ordered some HXP while you were at it. Ammo suitable for the M1 is both expensive and hard to come by. The CMP has the best prices other than reloading. I owned and shot several M1's before I came over to the dark side.
