Dry fire?

Ok so obviously I'm a newbie, so here goes. The 15-22 manual says to never dry fire. OK so what do you do when the hammer is cocked, store it that way? I read that for the 10-22 you can pull the bolt back slighlty, then dry fire for storage? Thanks in advance.

Joe, You posted this in the wrong forum so I hope a mod can move it to the 15-22 forum for you.

In any case, you can release the hammer by using the charging handle to pull the bolt open 1/8" or so then pulling the trigger. That way the firing pin does not make contact with the chamber.
