Dry Firing

Can dry firing a M&P damage the firing pin? I believe it does not damage a Glock. Thanks.

I shoot with a person that has the beta tested M&P9 in IDPA. He had well over 70,000 rounds through it and dry fires his pistol. He has had no problems with the firing pin.

Dry firing center-fire handguns is not a problem. Snap caps are a good idea either way. A clerk at a sporting-goods store once reminded me that dry-firing does "work" the action. So, doing this hundreds or thousands of times does add wear.

On the other hand, dry firing may well have its benefits. You are honing and breaking in that action, too.

Just my opinion.

Best to use snap caps. You will find this is true with the Glocks. This topic has been discussed on the Glock forum. Use them.

Every serious competitive shooter will tell you that their biggest training tool is dry fire practice. The great thing about this is that it's free and can be done anywhere. You work in practicing drawing from concealment and work in some mag changes in there and you've increased your skill set and never spent a dime.
