After 5 years, the wait is over. I finally got this Model 547 dual cylinder revolver I had been after for so long. The gun has a fitted factory recessed 357 magnum cylinder with it to go along with the standard 9MM cylinder. The gun has two pairs of the factory "banana" grips, the standard checkered ones, and fancy smooth ones, and is fitted with special order Craig Spegel Birdseye Maple combat grips. I feel very fortunate to be able to add this unique revolver to my collection.

Excellent! You know, years ago the factory came out with a 547-M that was a 547 frame with a 357 cylinder..so you know it can handle the magnums.....I think Dr Smithnut has one. I have never seen a dual cylinder 547. Good job!

I cannot believe S&W "never did", and does not now, offer this as a factory regular production item.

Being able to shoot 38 Special, 357 Mag, and with a change of cylinder 9mm Luger, in one revolver seems like a great idea to me.

You could find ammo almost anywhere.

How well does it perform? I presume that your bore will be .355" or maybe .356". Back in the old days I don't think they'd throw a .357 barrel on a 9mm or .38 Super like they have been known to do today. Any pressure issues? And does it shoot to the sights with both cylinders?

You assume the 547 barrels are .355, maybe they're just regular .38/.357 barrels marked 9mm. In my experience with a .38 that's been rechambered to 9mm, that .002" doesn't mean a thing. If I figured it out, could be that S&W did too.

Great find Model39, I didn't even know such an animal existed!

Figure the bullet will upset slightly as it enters the forcing cone, then squeeze back down as it enters the bore, either .355 or .357.

I'm preparing to do something similar. I have two Model 65's; a -3 and a -5. Both are great shooters. I recently acquired a spare .357 cylinder for the 65's. I intend to send it to TK Customs (Pinnacle) and have it re-bored for 9mm and cut for moonclips. I'll re-time the cylinder to fit one of the two and see how it works. May be a few months, but I'll let ya'll know how it plays out.

A Two language Friend ?

:cool:Very Impressive ! Apparently the wait was worth it. I think I own your Mdl.547's older brother! I'll post pics , once I learn how to do it correctly. Building Custom Carries is easier than using the Computer. Just joking . Love those Birdseye Maple Combats.

TK Customs and Pinnacle are two different entities, though both do good work. Folks here have had work done by both and I've never seen anything bad about either. Pinnacle did a caliber conversion and some other work for me, great job!

That's a nice piece you have there..
One of my Holy Grails..
Also love the factory grips & the Spegels..

Wish I still had the 4" Square Butt M547 I sold last year..
I have wanted a 3"er for years..
Congrats!!

As far as I can tell the 547M was a concept, They even made a flyer for it but it was never produced as far as I can tell, Only Roy Jinks could tell you for sure.. There may be a prototype, See Pic..
SmithNut posted the flier & I was able to find it with the search engine..
Also Note that THIS 547M has a Round Butt on the 4" frame.
Factory All 3" M547s are Round Butt & All 4" M547s are Square Butt..
Here's the Flier, Very Cool IMO.. NICE STOCKS Too!!

From the flier there should be 4000 of these out there BUT??

Sorry; should have read "or Pinnacle". My typing isn't always what it should be. The research I've done on-line would seem to indicate that they both do good work. I'm glad to get a little confirmation. If you were making the choice, WC145, which would you use?

I used TK Custom to modify my 637 cylinder from .38 Special to 9mm and moonclips. The price (about 18 months ago) was $225 which included return shipping. It was 10 days from the day I shipped it off to the day I got it back. The work was outstanding; the cylinders were polished mirror smooth, and I've never had a problem with extraction. I highly recommend Tom.

My 9mm/.38 model 64 by Pinnacle

Here's my example built by Pinnacle...I use it for steel plate shooting and the moon clips make for ease of reload...I used a spare yoke and cylinder, fitted it myself and sent it to Pinnacle for 9mm conversion...It shoots very well and the .355/.357 differential does not negatively affect the accuracy in any significant way...It hits POA at the 40 feet my plate competitions are set, and with fixed sights...not a terget gun maybe but great fun...and very flexible...

Thanks for the information. Sounds like I can move ahead with this project. I may have to try a 686 next.

Model39,
That is fantastic! I have several 547s and have read about the 547M, but was not aware of a dual cylinder model. Thank you for the post.
