Weather was terrible HOT and the mosquitos were as bad as I can remember. Fog on Saturday our blind only got 8 but two were a nice pr of cans, drake and hen. Sunday the blind limited out-thank God for Spoonies ;)
Little fella age 12 was on his first camp hunt with dad and it was fun reliving it through his eyes. He shot a little Remington youth pump in 20 gauge and got a limit Saturday and on Sunday shot a big old GreenHead!!! Can't tell who was more excited-he or his dad. ( Now dad is going to find out how much it costs to mount ducke-he has two to mount-the first duck taken on Saturdat and then that big greenhead Sunday) With dads permission-I had him outside Saturday afternoon with my 317 kit gun and taught him the basics of a revolver and he had a blast plinking-had fun with him too-sent him on his first snipe hunt Saturday night after warning him about the roving band of man eating pigs :D
I also got to handle and shoot for the first time a 460 and all I can say is it left me with a big old **** eating grin on my face!! I really didn't want to like the gun, but I got to tell you it felt really good in my hand and even shooting the full house .460 it kicked on par with my .44 mountain gun. One thing though the owner told me that S&W said not to shoot .45 colt out of it as it will make the gun go out of time and is dangerous for the gun. Being polite I nodded my head-but I want to call Bravo Sierra on this unless someone knows something out there.
Anyway we ate good enjoyed the Auburn game and that last second touchdown pass and I was back home cleaned up in time to watch a pretty good Saints/.49'ers game.
All in all I give it a 9/10 for the weekend just because there is no such thing as a 10/10

Sounds like a great weekend. Thanks for the report......btw,how did Angus do on the "retrieve"??

Loved the Auburn/Georgia game.....didn't care who came out on top, but what an ending.

Agree on the BS call on the 460 and no .45 colts through it.

Son and I both drew reservations for public use areas Tuesday. Mine for lots of ducks-no cover, his for permanent blind-not so many ducks. We have settled on using his for the blind-along with two of the cousins. Here you draw for one reservation per year for up to four hunters. Otherwise it is stand in line for a possible spot.
He hunted with three buddies at this area last Wednesday and they limited out but it took all of a very cold day.
We just got a friend hooked opening day. Let him get the first duck of the day. He is now looking for a higher paying job.
Son's first canvasback is bound for the taxidermist soon.
I love watching the birds work the set and the dog when he retrieves.

Never heard of that re the .460. I thought it was advertised as being capable of firing .45 Colt, .454 Casull, and .460 S&W, so that seems a little odd. Can't imagine what effect it would have on timing.

Good show on the duck weekend. You can bet it is one the 12-y/o will always remember. Hope you guys weren't too bad of an influence on the lad.

The water seems to be a bit hard around here for duck hunting just now...but y'all just get the leftovers from what we decided not to shoot anyways. I've got a 460, and all I ever heard was to clean the cylinder very carefully after shooting the shorter rounds to get the carbon out and avoid an over pressure situation with the .460's.

Sounds like ya'll had a great time. Kids, what a treat. I remember taking my twin girls when the were 12. I'll never forget it. Keep them hunting and have fun.

Sounds like you had a good hunt. I haven't done a duck hunt in a while but had some great ones a few years ago with my BIL when he lived in Carencro. We used to hunt the Whitney Broussard lease down at Lake Arthur. Yeah, those spoonies can fill the gaps when the good stuff ain't flying and they do pretty good in the gumbo too. Speaking of duck gumbo, that would be real fine around Thanksgiving.

Sounds like a great hunt and I always loved taking those young ones out on their first hunts.
I used to duck hunt Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron but my duck hunting partners all moved out of state and my Golden died. Now with my back issues I've given it up but duck hunting camp will always bring back fond memories too.

The taxidermy is going to cost your buddy but you getting the boy started on revolvers might cost even more. Hey kids hunting with their dads aren't getting into trouble and leaves life long memories for them too.

Angus didn't make the traveling squad. I had to meet with my pathologist on a murder case that afternoon so it was from there to the boat. Parked at the dock, changed next to the car and took off. As far as the 12 year old-the first rule was firmly explained to him-"What goes on at the camp stays at the camp." He caught on to that one quick :D

There are quite a few ducks around here, and there are so many geese I bet any land owner would let you shoot them just to get rid of them. The deer population seems very high also, but sadly it seems quail are darn near extinct!
