Snuck out early this afternoon and made a little evening hunt. Pair of woodies and a gray. They're hanging now and I've got the gizzards cleaned and simmering with some mushrooms in a nice wine reduction. Got a little wild rice a cookin' and a nice bottle of cabernet open-ought to be a nice dinner.
I'll let the ducks hang for about a week and then decide what to do with them. Found another hole in my waders - the boot seam has dry rotted-guess they don't last more than 7-8 seasons now. I guess it's time for a new pair-but that can wait until next season.

Now what's all this nonsense about the ^$%# cussin' :D

I sprung a small leak in my heavier waders last season in the crotch area.
Tried to stay shallower when wearing those waders, which usually spells cold. Went to a local sporting goods store (save the name) and looked over how the waders' seams were made, trying to replace them. I was so spellbound at what I saw, I bought the patch set and tried to patch mine. The patch didn't stay, so I tried applying more of the glue. Reglued the area this year before the season came and they don't leak anymore. I would rather have the ones from 2000 than any of the new ones I looked at.

Glad to hear you had a good meat hunt. Good luck with the leaky waders. I have learned the hard way over the years to lay them carefully while not in use.

How in the world do you get waders to last 7 to 8 seasons. Three or four are my best, but after this very cold, frozen over duck season, mine have hardly been worn.

Glad that you had some success. After my son-in-law and I broke ice for what seemed like an eternity to get to the blind behind my house this past week-end, and shot only 2 ducks, I think that I have hung it up for this year, EXCEPT for Tuesday when it is supposed to be 54 degrees in the early AM. Snow and ice are still on the ground in shady spots here in eastern NC.

I agree with the idea of rabbit and squirrel hunting, now that mosy ducks have survived this cold winter.

I may need some beagles and a squirrel dog. Any one breed or have any of these. I have never had a squirrel dog and have not had beagles since high school, but in my old age, this may be a more gentlemanly pursuit. There are no quail left, except at hunting places, which I take advantage of a couple of times a year.

You want gizzards, you need to go slip on some of those ol' smelly pouldeau! Bigguns!

I have been duck hunting once or twice a week since the duck season opened in this area. It has been a good year and I have really been enjoying the ducks.... :)
