Lately I have been on a John Wayne binge. What great films. Rio Lobo, Rio Bravo, El Dorado, Big Jake, Chisum, McClintock, Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit, my God, what a body of work. Of course these are just a few. Star power, casting, scenery, music, action, just outstanding. They truly don't make them like that anymore. If you haven't seen these in a while, they only get better.

All great choices, but for my money the greatest of the Wayne motion pictures will require one to go a little further back in time. Stagecoach, Sands of Iwo Jima, Red River, Rio Grande, The Searchers, Fort Apache, and Hondo.

Duke starred in or appeared in a great many cheaply made and forgettable movies (most being westerns) throughout the 1930s and 1940s (with a few exceptions such as 1939's "Stagecoach"). He came into his own as a major western star later in the 1940s with performances in such classics as Angel and the Badman, Red River, Three Godfathers (the very first movie I saw which I remember) and John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy (Fort Apache, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, and Rio Grande). My personal all-time favorite is "The Searchers." I still watch it every time it comes on.

Just finished watching "The man who killed Liberty Valance" for the umpteenth time. "The Undefeated" is on now. I seldom miss one that's on while I'm home. McClintock & El Dorado are two favorites. Fortunately the wife enjoys most of them too! The Shootist & Rooster Cogburn are right up there at the top in my book.

Can't think of any I don't like, even the real early ones (30's) where he's wearing eyeliner. LOL! The Luck Texan was on when I woke up.
