Dumb and dumber ...

Personally I don't have a problem with this. It is a cafe, and I am a responsible adult and can control myself. They are putting a system in place to assure no fool can have a drink on their property and then go shoot. I think it will give the establishment more of a gun club feeling and should make them more prosperous.

I'm going to wait until I get all the facts... but that's just me.

The horror!! Can you believe that there are liquor stores AND gun stores! OMG!!

My local bar opens at 10 on Sundays and my range is 5ft away and opens at 11. In fact i drive by at least half a dozen bars on my way to the range. So what? Should they all be removed in case i get tempted. Guess what I can do in that time frame! Yes I can drink. I don't but I can. So what's the difference?

People always scream guns and alcohol don't mix ....well they arnt. You are having one or the other.

I had to go to Google to get a photo but check this out. A bar (on the left) and a shooting range (on the right) coexisting for at least 10 years.

I used to belong to a gun club that had a member's lounge. As far as I know they are still operating and there hasn't been any issues. People typically went there for a beer or two in the evening. when people went to shoot they went to the ranges and not to the lounge. I don't see a problem with this. they are suggesting way more controls that were in place at the club I used to belong to...

I don't see this as a problem...I do see the potential for a problem but if the culture they promote is booze and guns don't mix people catch on.

I dont drink to start with. Yet IF the rules were abided I could see it. Would be a nice place to set up a gunstore out of the back of my truck in the lot for when they come out of the door! Trouble is there always is trouble when there are rules.

Yeah, BATF can come in and check it all in one trip. So, if this is a bad idea, and doesn't look good, do we put a 'No Guns" sign in the cafe, or a "No Alcohol" sign at the range? I imagine the latter will be in place.

I'm sure the authorities will come up with breathalyzer locks on the guns like they have on some DUI cars.

Well, I gotta say....

This Forum has opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about mixing ('scuse me....not "mixing".... "participating-in sequentially") drinking and shooting. I didn't realize there was a school of thought that rationally argues the two can be enjoyed under the same roof at the discretion of the drinker/shooter.

What I intuitively know is a bad idea -- guns and alcohol in close proximity -- appears to have a flip side that I had never considered before.

All things being equal, I'm not personally gonna go against what intuition tells me, but I'll admit that "one size fits all" logic is fallacious too.

Hmmmm.....interesting.......

I truely believe that alcohol amd guns don't mix.
However, over the years I've been to several two or three day shooting events where folks shot during the day and gathered in the host yard or campground during the evening.
The rules were simple. No alcohol anywhere around he range during the day. If you wanted to imbibe during the evening social time, all your guns had to be put away.
It worked just fine. In fact, it was sorta interesting. After all it was a shooting event and naturally, even off the range, guns and gun talk was everywhere. Guns were always present, being examined and discussed. Many of the non-drinkers even wore handguns the whole time.
While those who chose an adult beverage were right there in the middle of it all and taking part in the discussion, none of them touched a firearm after that first drink.
In other words, we all acted like responsable adults.

Now, having said that, I still think a range with a bar is a bad idea. The antis are already having a field day predicting doom and death. Even if the place was to go 20 years without an incident, all it would take is one to make the national news and the "I told you so's" would ring from coast to coast.

I can't recall the titles offhand but I have at least a couple books on shooting from back in the '40s and '50s in my library wherein respectable authors discuss having a drink to "calm the nerves" prior to shooting a match.

I suspect alcohol and guns not mixing is another relatively new verboten thing along the same line as holsters that don't cover triggers, fingers on triggers, etc.

It's amazing mankind has survived thus far with all this stuff we used to do.

I have a refrigerator in my garage full of beer and a range out the back door. I seem to know the proper order of things and suspect others with a range/bar would too.
Does everything need to be controlled like we were 5 year olds?

Of course. That's why politicians exist - to do your thinking for you. Actually, they don't care what you do, as long as it's mandatory. Long live freedom, but do what we tell you, even if otherwise prohibited by Constitutional law. It's good for you. trust us. We're here to help you. Resistance is futile. Get in line. Do not become unruly. Do not bring history books. These may be be appropriated as contraband. If you wish to express an opinion, you must wait until we give it to you. Keep moving. Identify yourself by showing a valid food stamp. Keep moving. Keep moving. Keep moving. ....

Not sure that it's all that different from a liquor store/gas station?

"Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms" is a convenience store in Texas, right? :D

Actually, "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms" is a small strip shopping center on US 285 in Bailey, Colorado. Liquor store, smoke shop, and gun store all under one roof.

My trap and skeet club has a liquor license and we have quite a few family-friendly events (dinners, barbeques, etc). I see nothing wrong with it.
