Dumb Question

I have not fired my S&W model 908 in many years and was never given instruction on how to disassemble and clean it.

However, my dumb question for the day is about the safety.

Is the safety in place if the red dot is visible or if the safety lever covers the red dot.

I have been around rifles and revolvers for years, but never had a semi-automatic until I my revolver was stolen.

The manuals for the newer guns said the safety should be in the up position, but since the red dot appeared, logically it meant to me to STOP. So I guess my 908 should be in the down position so the read dot is covered, correct?

Good thing I never store a round in the chamber!

Now sure what to say about that.... safety in the up position??
I know my 4013 the safety is in the down position. I was under the impression that all the slide mounted safety/decocker levers would be the same.

If you can see the red dot, the gun is hot. Red means fire.

can you dry fire so you can figure it out for sure?

The lever pointed forward and the red dot visible means it's ready to fire. Lever pointed directly at the magazine release button means it's in the SAFE position. The 908 is a great little pistol.
