Dumb question

Hey Guys

I'm looking to buy grips for my 629-4inch that I just bought:

Model 629 4" Barrel | Smith & Wesson

Unfortunately I'm at work, without access to the gun, and I don't know if I have a square or round butt. Yes, I realize I can just wait 8 hours or so and find out myself... but I wanna buy stuff noooooooowwwww (yes I'm pouting).

Does anyone know definitely square or round, or could it be either depending on something I'm unaware of?

If that link is to the 629 you actually bought, round butt. If you have an early 629, square butt.

If it's a -5, or a -6 (-6 is the current production) It's a round butt.

I assume it's the most recent generation, but I bought it through Davidsons GoG, so I have no idea. How can you tell if it's a -5 or -6?

It will be stamped on the yoke cutout (frame under where the barrel threads in).

Most current large frame S & W revolvers have "round to square" rubber conversion stocks, so don't feel bad about not knowing the frame contour underneath them...

Good tip on the yoke! I'll have to check that out when I get a chance.

Does it have the internal lock by the cylinder release? If so, it is round. If not, could be either

Since you just bought it new, I'll bet it's a -6. Simply put, the only difference between the 4" -5, and the 4" -6 has the internal lock, and the -5 ( hasn't been made since 2001 or so) doesn't have the lock.
