Dumb ?

Bought an early 696 awhile ago with Hogue grips. Wanted the factory wooden grips and watched the Internet for awhile where ones were selling for over $100.

Called S&W and CS told me to contact Altamont which I did...think I paid around $60 for a set with medallions on them.

Did Altamont supply the original grips to S&W for this model? CS fellow did not know....

Welcome to the Forum. I believe the early 696s were before the Altamont stock era, but the stocks at that time were made outside the factory. Are you referring to the Combat (fingergroove) type?

Yep, the fingergroove type....the Altamonts look identical to the factory ones....and I believe only Altamont has the rights to put the medallions on their wood grips?
