I enjoy Shooting my M&P 15 .22 and .223 but really who can afford to now? After a trip to my local GS I could not believe $90 to $ 100 for a 500 count .22 I didn't even look at .223 Had to pass, On the drive home I contemplated This "How the Hell can 1 crazy person ( Sandy Hook )cause a entire industry to be turned up side down" That is a lot of power!!! Consumers need to stop buying and take some power back!!! Oh well Thanks for letting me vent.

For all I know, obama may be paying manufacturers to not produce ammo.

The shooter at Sandy Hook may have been the straw that broke the camel's back but, to be honest, the gun community has done this to themselves. Everyone is looking for ammo. Everyone is looking for mags. Why though? Fear, greed, self interest and/or a steady amount of spoon fed conspiracy theories (see above). I was at a LGS today and we were talking about the current events and how they resemble the housing bubble. People are making money from money that has no real backing other than what someone is willing to pay for it. Eventually the "bubble" will pop. Hang in there! I used to shoot once a week at the local range. Now, if I'm lucky, I'll get out there once a month in order to conserve the ammo I have. I refuse to buy at these inflated prices but every now and then I get lucky finding some "normal" priced ammo.

My Gander Mountain had 500 count boxes of Federal gold medal target 40g for $34.99 and 375 count bulk CCI Mini-Mag 36g hollow points for $29.99 this morning. Those aren't ridiculous prices.

You need to find a new LGS... My LGS had Federal 500 ct box for $28, and Winchester 555 for $39. I thought them prices were high, but in the current time, not too bad. The ammo doesn't stay on the shelfs long, so you got to get as soon as the truck comes in. I've been Lucky a few times.:D

I've been paying around $20 for the 325 count of federal. Not too bad but still a little higher than "normal".

Like Jaguar said. im just going to ride the storm out. i have a good supply of 22lr ammo and no its not a rediculous amount. 1500 rounds at the max on any given day. i wish i could give you all the name and number to my gun guy. however, he is a small town gun shop owner and wishes to stay that way. i have 2 magazines and would like more but i'll make due with what i have. i look at it this way if i have to keep reloading my 2 mags, it makes my shooting time last longer and i dont burn up as much ammo as i do with my .223.

correction. i dont burn up as much .223 as i use to. sorry but i dont shoot that much anymore

Find a new store, here in Eastern Massachusetts I can buy 500 round bricks of CCI SV for $27. Another store close by is selling them for $30.

Wish I could find a new LGS he is the only one around that even has 22 ammo. He is taking advantage of the situation, factory mags for the M&P 15 $130 he had three on shelf. Oh well maybe it will take a while, like everything else it may take some time for it to get to the Midwest, Are prices starting to stabilize on the coasts?

Ok.. another 100 miles traveled and no luck on .22 I am done.. went home and fired 25 of my last 50.. as fast as I could in frustration..
I'm going golfing...

Hang in there. I get lucky sometimes at the LGS who hasn't raised their prices and at the local Walmart. Was at Walmart the other day and walked over to sporting goods just for laughs and to my surprise they had several 1000 round bricks of Winchester M22 for $48 + change. Was $103 bucks out the door for 2000 rounds. That's only .05 cents a round. Wish I could have afforded to have bought the six bricks they had in stock but I already got "the look" from the Spouse. LOL!! It's out there. By the way I took some of the M22 to the range and it worked flawlessly in my M&P 15-22 and my M&P 22 pistol.

I like to shoot as much as the next guy, but I will not buy any ammo until the prices come back down to "before crazy" levels! If that means putting the guns in the safe for an extended period of time, so be it.

My LGS has raised prices on ammo, but not that much. I bought a 525rd pack of blazer 22's today for 23.99. The OP needs to find another gun shop me thinks....one that doesnt gouge.

Every time I read the threads about a lack of .22 ammo or gouging dealers I am so happy I put away tons of ammo the past few years :)

I hope people remember the dealers that bent them over during the shortage and shop elsewhere when things get better.

I don't see this situation being resolved anytime soon. When the last obama scare took place there wasn't really much out there for AR styled 22's. Yeah tons of 22's out there but not too many guys who would burn 500 rounds a week. And before obama you could go in and buy a box of
223's for about 5-6 bucks. So lots of guy wouldn't think anything about blowing several hundred rounds of 223. I don't recall any real shortage of ammo aside from 223 back then. 22lr was never a problem, although prices went up about then or a little before due to the value of lead.

Now there are tons of guys with the 15/22 style rifles and they are hungry. And my guess is you guys who don't have any ammo will not allow that to happen again. So that will take a while to quench the demand. And the problem is that while peoples stock piles go up it's also being shot.

I bought my first 15/22 in october and decided then that I didn't have enough to feed the thing, so my goal was to have 20k by the end of the year. I figured it wouldn't go bad and it wouldn't get any cheaper. Boy was I right!!! I didn't quite make it because of backorders, but it did eventually get to me, all less than .05 per round with a good mix of reliable brands.

I only wish I could hit the market like that...
