Occasionally, I see a post where the gun in question letters as a duplicate serial number. Apparently, Roy discovers this while researching the shipping records. This is the only one I can recall seeing where the duplication was discovered prior to the gun leaving the factory. How many more are out there?

Incidentally, the letter incorrectly identifies this as a first model; it is a third.

I own one that is a duplicate number, but unmarked. Roy told me one went to Europe and one (mine) was shipped in the US. It was a 5" Heavy Barrel K 38, shipped to the IL State Police.

There are examples of triple serial numbers, as well as duplicates, due to the stamping machine getting stuck and repeatedly stamping the same numbers. The other side of the coin is when the machine breaks down and no numbers are stamped. So, does that mean that duplicate or triplicate guns , with no numbers, are shipped with just a solo "D' or "T" stamp ? Ed.
